Steam Update

The Steam News Page (thanks Frans) has details on this week's update to the broadband content delivery system. There's a lengthy list of what's fixed and changed, preceded by this note about the update that includes word that Windows game servers are going to require a manual restart:
We have released a game engine update via Steam this evening. This release includes a number of additions and bug fixes, including one which should clear up the remaining cases of the authentication error people have been getting today.

Server admins please note that this release will require all game servers to restart. If you run a server on Windows, you'll need to restart manually; Linux servers will restart automatically if the server admin has enabled that option.

HORRENDOUS! Everytime I want to play Firearms I have to reinstall steam. And sometimes I have to go so far as to REINSTALL WINDOWS! ... Yes you heard me if I want to play FA I have to reinstall WINDOWS 2000 PRO. WHAT THE FUCK HAVE THEY DONE TO MY GOOD OL' FIREARMS BY COMBINING IT WITH THIS THIS PIECE OF SHIT! I just bought a new keyboard AND mouse just for FA and now I can't even use it.

My experience:
Install, crash, uninstall, re-install, run, connect with my 56k modem (you know the connection that 73% of internet users still have to use), starts downloading on and on and on dispite having the games I want to play already installed, 4 hours later my connection drops (that's the way my isp works), steam is "supposed" to resume HA no such luck, starts from the beginning again, repeat.
I paid my money to Valve and they have ripped me off of my right to play online (once Won goes down). They will NOT be getting any more of my money. Might have to pirate HL2.
UP YOURS VALVE!!

Up till now I hadn't bothered getting Steam since it seemed like a pointless piece of software, but I'd quite like to give DoD 1.1 a go, and I guess that'll only be available on Steam.

So I thought I'll finally waste time downloading it. Until I had a quick skim over the Steam subscriber agreement. That is one scary document. I think it may have mentioned something about them reserving the right to come round and break my knee caps and me not having the right to hold them responsible for it.

"What in the heck are you talking about?"

Iodine deficiency during pregnancy and early infancy can result in cretinism (irreversible mental retardation and severe motor impairments).

What in the name of fuck have they got to do with Steam. Never mind just stick with WON, and tell you mum to buy some Iodine tablets if she plans on having any more children.

What in the heck are you talking about?

I'm glad some of you like steam. Good for you.

Do you like Gator as well? Or perhaps Weather Bug?

I played NS for hours last night through steam with no problems. Yes there have been massive teething fuckups, but I believe the worst of it is now over. Never having to worry about patching HL and it's mods again (when they get full steam support) sounds good to me.

I'm not trying to pile on but fuk, HL and all its mods were always good solid gaming that you could count on.

Now they had to go and fuk it up! I no longer expect new onine games to be good, but they couldn't have just let HL alone.

fuk!

Install.
Crash, crash, finally run. Download every game I already have installed, verify that I have a right to play them, play game, exit game, redownload entire game again next time I want to play.
Uninstall.

I really still dont understand this Steam.
Will we have to have this to play online HL1 or HL2?
I tried reading some of the Steam Faq but, why would I want to chat with my friends thru some Soft?

Scorpio Slasher: ... What about you boy, what do hate?
Marcus: ... Bullies. Tiny d*ck egotists who hurt people for no reason, make people lock their doors at night. People who make general existence worse, people like you.

I was wondering why Steam was so shitty this evening. Just a handful of DoD servers, not to mention the random kickings and such. Maybe tomorrow it'll be better....
