Star Wars KOTOR Gold

LucasArts announces that the PC version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is gold, and will be in stores on November 18. Here's the story: "It is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. As the last hope of the Jedi, you must lead a band of freedom fighters in an epic struggle to save the galaxy. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side? Hero or villain, savior or conqueror...you must choose wisely as you alone will determine the destiny of the entire galaxy!"

yea, funnilly(is that a word?) i never really got into BG 1 or 2 but found IWD very fun as for NWN it was decent, keep up the good work and can't wait for kotor, even though i think you should have definetly done it for pc first as this is where the biggest market is (and your loyal fans!)

Not on my watch, it isn't.

Good job in keeping a good humour. It IS a good game. The bugs can be extremely frustrating though and I think that folks need to be aware of them.

My son played the game all the way to the end... only to have to restart the game because of a bug. I haven't gotten that far myself so I haven't experienced THAT bug but I have had numerous times where peoples heads were missing.

IN the end it is possible to get around the bugs but in a console game one doesn't expect to HAVE to work around them. I can't imagine how somebody without easy access to the net and all of the information about the bugs would deal with the situation.

...mr French, coming onto the board and doing a bit of neccessarry correction work. You guys play the online game very well; forums, support et al. Mayor props That's why you get such rabid fans

Anyway, what about Shadowrun for Bioware's next game? NWN shows that you can build the engine and you must have some people who can script the 'missions' nice and open ended like to allow for some mayor emergent gameplay (SR would really lend itself to this; all you need ( ) is a city with some wilderness around it and you can probably even build quite a few interesting automatically generated missions in there (as in: fixer says: "go to [third floor] of [renraku building] in [south west of city] and [get/destroy] [boss'] [computer]"). If you set up/script some impressive guard routines and have some mayor gear (and have climbing in there!) you could even do that as the whole game, without any real story mission! Kinda like an 'elite' game on land
Then take it online, fixing the 'portal' issues (consistent character + bringing stuff along with you from server to server) and you have a moneymaker, imo.

Aw, fsck it...guess the only SR cRPG out there will be the one on the SNES KotOR will have to do for now

Interesting comments, Zep. I guess its not that big of a deal that there are multiple Star Wars games. Each title is being developed by a different studio, so its not like us working on KotOR affects Galaxies.

Ultima 7 is in a realm of it's own, but I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to KotOR JUST AS MUCH as I did for U7 and Serpent Isle.

One more week babyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Well, I heard good things about this game, but now someone compared it with Ultima 7. I'm sold

Let me get it straight: KOTOR is far from being as good as Ultima 7.. but it's still an amazing RPG. Ultima 7 (Part 1 & 2) will probably never be beaten. It's the pinnacle of RPG/world building. Never a game even approached its interactivity and its realism.

I played through the game as a dark-side soldier/guardian on medium difficulty and had absolutely no problems. In fact, it was a little too easy.

I'm currently playing through the game as a light-side scoundrel/consular on hard difficulty and it has been a more gratifying challenge.

I find it hard to imagine how any character could get to the end of the game and not have enough skills and experience to be ready for the end-battle. Even if you don't do any side-quests it still seems like you'd be really high-level that far into the game.

On an interesting note... mini-spoiler:
The first time I played the game, I named my character "Darth Revile" I found it cool that it happened to be so close to the name "Darth Revan". The dark-side was strong with me.

Well, I ended up playing for 30 hours or so, but now my character is in a spot where she can't progress without forcing the "final battle" (I think). And she's not prepared for it.

So, I can either replay the game and hope to bypass whatever bug I hit, or I can put the game away. I did the latter.

However, I might get the PC version, because it IS an incredibly fun game and I was having a blast with it. I just dislike replaying the same stuff.

Im not sure why there is such massive hype surrounding this game... I bought it for Xbox, finished it in about 2 weeks... and that was that. The game was fun, sure - but not stellar by any means. Its a well done RPG, but no one element is outstanding - and on the whole it is basically just another console PRG. Its really, really sad times when your average, solid RPG like this is heralded as some kind of masterpeice. I guess there has just been so much utter crap released recently that a good game automatically becomes a great game. Man thats lame.

I own KOTOR for XBOX and it's easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The story/dialogue is stellar. What makes the game different and fun is that it forces you to make very difficult choices all the time. It happens often that you actually stop and think about what you're going to say and its impact in the game world. Very, very few games achieve that. Only BG2 and Ultima 7 come to mind.

I'd rank KOTOR the 3rd best rpg of all time, Ultima 7 being first and BG2 second.

Good work Bioware. Just cut the crap like the NWN OC, which was absolutely horrible compared to BG2 and KOTOR. Thanks to Derek for the nice support on the board.

Besides, I think Zephalephelah hasn't taken his daily Prozac this morning.

No, it's because we played both Light and Dark campaigns, and tried out the various character classes.

KOTOR was my first ever RPG (I'm a FPS kinda guy). I've never had the experience of spending 35 hours finishing a game and then saying to myself, "Okay, now I've got to play it all over again." This game is incredible.

Haha. Dude you got owned.

NWN was awesome. The OC did lack though. I wish they would do a sci-fi NWN..

Okay, bet they will do that if you pay all the server admins and internet bandwidth

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Well, there were too many locked chests and boxes in the official campaign, and since I just have to find everything, I opened every damn one of them.

Other than that, it was fine, though it felt more confined than say, BG2.
