Star Wars KOTOR Gold

LucasArts announces that the PC version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is gold, and will be in stores on November 18. Here's the story: "It is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. As the last hope of the Jedi, you must lead a band of freedom fighters in an epic struggle to save the galaxy. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side? Hero or villain, savior or conqueror...you must choose wisely as you alone will determine the destiny of the entire galaxy!"

that it will be in stores tomorrow, since I have half the day off, but the gimp at EB told me it wouldn't be in until Wednesday

He did give me a lightsaber letter opener for my grief.

yeah, a shadowrun game would rock.

but I want most is a Battletech MMO. just take the original turn based game and turn it into a 3D real time RPG. Just like the Battletech MU*s of yesteryear.

I loved MechWarrior 2, don't get me wrong, but they need to bring Battletech back to its roots

Is there any difference between shadowrun on genesis and snes (thats super famicom right?)?

Yes. SNES Shadowrun is an entirely different game from the Genesis one. I haven't played it, but I've seen a lot of people claim that one or the other is better (which usually means that both games are good but in different ways).

What emulator are you using? I haven't looked at Genesis emus in a couple of years...
Gens (http://gens.consolemul.com/) is good.

I just played shadowrun for genesis on my computer for about the billionth time. I am playing shining force 2 right now as a matter of fact. Isn't it weird that the graphics aren't a turnoff at all?

From the new official Shadowrun RPG site :

Why isn't there a Shadowrun computer game or MMORPG?

Microsoft owns the computer game rights for Shadowrun, so it's in their hands. This means they make decisions regarding any Shadowrun computer games, MMORPGs and skins/modifications to existing computer games (computer game aids for the Shadowrun RPG are under the jurisdiction of WizKids/FanPro).
Microsoft has not announced any plans and has nothing in development at this time. If you have questions or queries, or you want to encourage them to develop a Shadowrun computer game, write to: shadowru@microsoft.com (no, that's not a typo--there's no "n" in that address).

I pre-ordered and bought NWN as soon as it was available simply to support the concept of taking pencil and paper RPGs and translating their rules to computer games.

A Shadowrun PC game done similarly to NWN would completely and utterly rule. No more fumbling around with the decking and rigging rules -- the computer keeps track of them for the GM allowing people to finally play these character types without slowing down the game.

The only problem is that right now BioWare's technology doesn't seem to be up to the task of modelling outdoor environments in such a way so that you can (for example) hop into a GMC Banshee and get into a high speed chase over 2063 Seattle. Maybe things have advanced a lot since NWN (I haven't looked too closely at KOTOR) but it seems like you would need a more "GTA" style outdoor environment to make this possible without a ton of loading screens.

Since MS will probably never license the rights anyway this is all just rambling though. To do it right they would need to also get a license from WizKids (to use the pencil and paper game mechanics and other materials).

Too bad.

Let me step up and say i liked the NWN OC. I bought the game played teh OC, and dumped the game. The story was cool, not too hard (no cheats or strat guide). Also was very happy that there was no party to micromanage. That kills games liek Dungeon Siege for me. About the only thing I would have liked is bigger maps. The similar size of most zones kind of hurt it.

That's a real shame, PS:Torment ranks as my favorite all time CRPG, as it stands it should be what all CRPG's are ranked against. Good story, for the time good graphics, great sound, good characters with good background and interesting interplay. It was a good bit of work.

Well here's to hoping that I'm not disapointed I'll find out I guess...only abit more then a week to wait to play it...if I've waited several months another week isn't going to kill me...too much.

also the fact that it was rolling dice every time i did something was kind of a turn off

The Infinity Engine games (BGs, IWDs, etc.) did this too...they just hid it from you!

It's not that the NWN OC sucked royally, it's also the fact that the control scheme for NWN is very awkward (add the multiplayer lag and it's almost unplayable). I just totally hate the way the character moves when it turns, how the pathfinding works, and all the cameras are stupidly designed. The graphics are horrible (the tiling and map size removes any personality in the game). The character models are extremely ugly too. There's no party option. All this makes the immersion factor at an absolute zero.

My problem with the OC was it paled in comparison to BG2. Granted, BG2 is pretty hard to top, but the OC just felt empty. I've heard people say that if you bought NWN just for the OC, "you should have know better, as it was advertised as a tool set". That may well be, but I read at least one article where Bioware talked about how they were working to make the OC worth the purchase, and a story of it's own.

But that was then and this is now. I'm sure, as a dev, it's very hard to hit a homerun every single time. I've preordered KOTOR, and am very much looking forward to it.

I really don't care how console-ish it is - if it's a great game, it's a great game.

We have been hearing "MS payed you to do the Xbox version" for about 2 years and I would have loved for that to be true.

Oh, that wasn't what I meant. I thought MS paid companies to get exclusivity for a little while. Maybe it's just a rumour. Oh well. I hope the end result is worth the wait and I'm sure it is. I have no problems waiting for games except for Duke Nukem Forever.

All this makes NWN sucks real, real bad in my opinion. This could still have been a winner with a Bioware-quality OC, but instead it's a stinker with a OC that the fan-created campaigns beat easily.

I get tired of people deciding that NWN sucks just because they didn't like the OC.

Simply buying NWN, playing the OC, and setting it aside is the gaming equivalent of driving in Nascar: Here you have this amazing, powerful machine capable of great things and all you use it for is to turn left for a couple of hours.
