Strategy First announces new Jagged Alliance game for Q1 2004 is the official press release announcing the new Jagged Alliance 2 game that answers the question raised when the product page came online (story) clarifying that it is a stand-alone expansion in price ($19.99) and packaging (the original JA2 will be included). The release includes further details on the project's war on drugs theme, and indications that Strategy First plans to continue extending the JA franchise in spite of the demise of developer SirTech:

“Moving forward with the Jagged Alliance series is one of our major focuses for the next few years,” says Don McFatridge, President and CEO of Strategy First. “Teaming up with Serge ‘Wildfire’ Popov was an obvious move on our part as he is truly one of the best known modders in the JA community and we couldn’t be happier with our partnership.”

They lay off the team that created it, even the guy who INVENTED it, then they get other people to develop a new 'version' of the game.
