I guess I am lucky then. Installed the latest 3.9 and nary a hiccup.

Course I UN-installed every ATI driver on my computer and ran Norton Windoctor to clean up the registry, then rebooted and then installed the new drivers. No problems of any kind.

FYI - System specs - Athlon 64, ASUS Mobo, ATI AIW 9800 Pro, SB Audigy 2 ZS, 1 gig ram, 160 RAID 0 S-ATA (yeah, it rocks :D)

Good, I am not alone and there's a workaround. I will have to try that.

Slightly off-topic, but has anyone had any luck finding the Radeon 9600 XT?? I've tried 3 of my local Best Buys, and they don't have any and don't know when they will, Circuit City doesn't have it, pricewatch.com only shows two companies selling it and they both have it listed as "pre-order", and ati.com shows it as "sold out-do not order."

Did they only manufacture like 10 of these cards?! I see 9800 XT's available all over...is ATI trying to force us into buying the much more expensive card? Anyone got the lowdown?

Hi All - new to the board. Drivers seem to work fine with CoD and H&D2, but have slowed Tiger Woods 2004 (yay.. computer golf) to a slideshow....

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 AIW card. These games do NOT work:
1. Half-Life
2. Doomsday (http://www.doomsdayhq.com)
3. Jedi Academy
4. Jedi Outcast

Do work:
1. Max Payne

Untested:
1. Battlefield 1942
2. C&C:G games

Also, my OpenGL screen savers don't work. I believe opengl32.dll is incompatible with v3.9 driver since my games and screen savers use them. Renaming this file made them say can't find the OpenGL driver.

I am going back to v3.8 soon if I don't find a workaround.

To everyone with v3.9 driver problems, do you have an All-In-Wonder model? It seems everyone with AIW is having problems with OpenGL.

The drivers may have came out yesterday, but look at the filedates - they were made before Call of Duty was released. So no, these drivers couldn't address the CoD problem.

The next set will fix it I'm sure. In the meantime, I've put the Cat 3.5 atioglxx.dll file in the game directory - 3.6 and 3.7 had a bug where the colour was only 16 bit in openGL games...

The biggest difference I've noticed so far is the Heat effects on MW tanks in Zero Hour is now fixed - that wasn't mentioned in the readme. That was the biggest problem I had with Cat3.8..

I never bother to uninstall, reboot, then install, reboot. Figgure their installer should uninstall old stuff like it's supposed to. Hit the installer, reboot, done.

You are just begging for trouble doing that ZzeusS. Although I agree that their installer should UNinstall previous drivers, you really should reboot in between, otherwise you're not getting rid of the registry keys currently loaded into memory...

As for the new drivers, I'm still running the 3.6, which seems to be the only one I could find that's been hassle free with any games. As long as I don't run into any problems, I'll just stick with them. I still ran the 27.42 Detonators when Nvidia was releasing the 44.03s

Those with Call of Duty problems simply have to disable fastwrites in the display settings under the smartgart tab. Admittedly, that specifically might have been addressed with this set of drivers (default it to disabled instead of enabled), but it's not hard to fix yourself.

It was a fresh install, but I went to driverheaven.net and picked up the 3.7s, then went back to 'em. Working fine now. Odd thing is someone mentioned worms 3D stutters--I'm having no problems with it (at least, the second demo anyway).

Just go to the rage3d.net forums and read about Worms 3D. Tons of people have problems with the full version of Worms 3D...

Anyway, goint back to 3.7 doesn't help since the XTs are NOT supported by 3.7 and prior! This means that I'm stuck with 3.8 and 3.9 which crashes CoD regularly... geez I had less troubles with my Voodoo 1 and beta drivers.

Some of you who got rid of the 3.7 cats really should just make a folder on your HD and name it UPDATES. Then keep driver updates for your system in there.

Its been the best habit I've gotten into. Especially with how frequent Nvidia used to update their drivers. And more so now with ATI's latest batch of drivers (3.8 and 3.9) ugh...
