Supremacy Unveiled

Another new Strategy First Product Page (thanks Frans) reveals another new project in the works called Supremacy: Four Paths to Power, described as "a unique turn based strategy game of interplanetary combat." Here's a bit more on the game (release date TBD), being developed by Black Hammer Game:
The game casts the player in the role of a Commanding Officer (CO), who will control one of four possible races, each with their own abilities and strategies.

No matter which CO is selected the goal is the same – conquest of the galaxy! They will have to manage resources, produce units, capture planets and space stations, and ultimately, defeat their enemies.

The path to victory will not be an easy one though. Not only will a CO need to master the art of space combat, but they must also become a skilled ground war strategist to ensure planetary control for their race.

Hey, my name is Thor Jensen and I'm an assistant designer at Black Hammer, the developers of Supremacy: Four Paths to Power. I just wanted to step in here to say that in no way, shape or form is our game related to the 1991 Amiga title Supremacy: Your Will Be Done. When we were brainstorming game names during the beginning of our development cycle, we had no idea that there was already a game with a similar name published in the UK over a decade ago. A search of US game databases revealed no matches so we went ahead with the production. Since learning about this other game, we've taken the opportunity to play it and you guys are right - it's great! But it's a very different game, with very different play mechanics than what we're making.

We're not looking to ride on any coattails or steal any glory - we just want to make the best turn-based strategy games we can possibly make. So far, Supremacy: Four Paths To Power is turning out pretty damned good. All I ask is that you don't carry any bias against the game due to its similar title - I think on it's own merits it'll give you plenty to be happy about. And maybe in 15 years when some other new developer puts out something called "Supremacy: Inside The Hive Mind" or something we'll be lucky enough to have fans who remember our work with such fondness as well, because that's really the best thing a developer can hope for.

Thanks for your comments.

Supremacy was SUCH a cool game - the interface was gorgeous, especially things like the terraforming, troop armour and weapons, training states, aggression of your warriors...

<sigh>

Ascendancy kicked ass too...

Having worked with Microprose at one point (with not for) I was gutted when the Chipping Sodbury office died a couple of years ago. Hunt Valley was the other major site that worked gaming mojo - seeing it go too is another blow.

I just recently re-bought it on CD (lost my old disks, there was like 9 of them), but have no way of playing it since I now have WinXP

lucky bastard :-)

To get some dos games running in windows XP try some of these links (let me know if they work out for you):

general info:
http://www.dosgames.com/xphints.php

Dosbox:

getting sound:
http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/

hehe, someone recommended this:
1.You must have a sound card that support dos & general midi !
2.buy an old Hard disk like 2 or 5 GB
3.Instal dos 6.22 on it
4.Install it & When you do not want it , in bios disable it !

And ascendancy was pretty nice, a HUGE galaxy to explore and the battles were purty from what I remember...Still, that's ot such an old game right?

Also brings back memories of an old game named reunion. Great mod music and a fabulous intro. :-)
Holy crap, I can't believe someone else has actually heard of this game much less played it. I just recently re-bought it on CD (lost my old disks, there was like 9 of them), but have no way of playing it since I now have WinXP.

I was just gonna say, wasn't that also the title of an old pc game?
i remember you had to ship your soldiers and/or colonists to different planets coming closer and closer to a final showdown.
One of the coolest parts for me (and I was so young back then) were the 4 different armour thingies you could buy for your soldiers, the protection field thingy being the coolest :-)

If only I could go back playing that, I'm sure I'd be better at it now..

To spoil the memories of a once grand AMIGA/PC game with this kind of crap, should not be allowed...
