Homeworld 2 Mod Tools

Vivendi Universal Games sends a note about the release of the modification tools for Homeworld 2:
Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) announced today that the modification tools for Homeworld(r)2, the sequel to 1999's award-winning, space-based real-time strategy game, have been released to the public and are now available to users at http://www.relic.com/rdn.

Amateur and professional game designers alike can use these powerful modification tools to create their own ships, levels, single-player campaigns, and multiplayer game modes. These are the same tools used by the game's developer, Relic Entertainment, to create the content for Homeworld 2. Detailed documentation has been included with the tools to ensure ease of use, regardless of experience or skill level. A copy of Homeworld 2 is required to use any content created with the modification tools.

"We want to make user modification of Homeworld 2 as easy as possible," said Geoff Thomas, Assistant Producer of Homeworld 2. "The quality of work produced by Relic fans in the modding community has blown us away, and we want to do as much as we can to facilitate their efforts with Homeworld 2. We're really looking forward to seeing what fans can do with these tools."

AHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA worse than WC3??? WC3 cant compare to this game. WC3 is a simple kids game compared to HW2, complexitivity-wise! for that the UI is very well made except for some minor flaws.

Anyway, anyone ever seen a mod for HW1 completed? I doubt it will happen with this game either...

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I think I'd be breaking too many conventions if I didn't utter the ritual response to being called a n00b.

"fanboi".

I don't disagree about the usability, but it shouldn't have to look like shit in order to have that. It looked like you were playing with an internal alpha version of the UI.

I can't really be a HW2 noob any more. I stopped playing. I thoroughly enjoyed and played the original through, but when I used my marine frigates against enemy carriers, and the takeover simply failed without saying anything after they'd sat next to them for ages and the takeover bar had reached full, I stopped playing in disgust.

I'm sure someone somewhere came up with a commandment for game design that said something like "Thou shalt not give something a game mechanic, then stop it from working without explanation to the player simply for thou convenience."

There's even plenty of good ideas in the game, like the subsystems, but it doesn't hang together as a fun game for me. It's also caught between a rock and a hard place, because Generals: Zero Hour is incredibly good fun and has more personality, and Total War is more cerebral.

Bollocks, sure it looked like shit, but i was switichin thru windows and making awsome shiz happen 2 mins into the tutorial. For a 3D RTS, the UIs usability was second to none.

Agreed, while the UI wasn't a real looker it got the job done excellently.

Yea....some B5 shit would kick ass. Someone make it happen. I wouldn't mind punching a hole in the Andromeda with the Argo's guns either a la Space Cruiser Yamato.

Some people need to find out the meaning of "noob"

HW2 UI does look like shit, I mean the graphical side is very weak compared to say WarCraft3? Usability is pretty poor either.

A UI that doesn't look like programmer art and two sides that are actually different would be a good start for homeworld 2.
(yes, I know there are some differences, but in the scope of things, they're minor. Take C&C:Generals as a good example of *different* sides).

Spoken like a true HW2 noob.

The only download for Homeworld 2 that I can find is the Demo.

I hate links that don't tell you where the loot is located (no offense Blue). Anybody manage to find it?
