BF 1942 SitRep

The Battlefield 1942 Website (thanks Ant) has a status report on the eagerly anticipated version 1.5 patch:
Greetings from the Battlefield 1942 team.

We’d like to thank all of you for your continued patience and interest in the upcoming 1.5 patch. We’re sorry to say that this community update is to let you know that the patch won’t make it out this week.

The reason for the delay is that we want to make sure that it reaches you in top condition and that the cd swap fix we've been working on has proven trickier than first anticipated. The rest of the bug fixes are in place and The Invasion of the Philippines map is just about ready to go. It will be well worth the wait, we promise.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Battlefield 1942.

EAComMike and the rest of the Battlefield team

Yeah, DICE has explained the chat lag problem several times, it has to do with available bandwidth. The only way to minimize the problem is to make sure that you have the correct connection type selected in options.

EA uses a security program on the disks they sell, this code is a pain in the ass to deal with internally sometimes causing bugs, so working with an outside developer like DICE to fix something can take forever.

Also remember people are working on new products not just support, so this isn't the highest priority for anyone. Add to this it's three different versions of the game with X amount of patches, plus all the other languages. You'd be surprised how long it can take when something isn't the company's top priority. Even testing has been working on the Q3 releases, so don't blame anyone it is just how it is.

To the guy complaining about the chat lag, someone did post an article about why this is a pain in the ass to fix. Don’t remember where I read it, PlanetBF maybe or the EA site?

If you want to complain about something, complain about CS sports trying to charge you for looking at your stats. Now that's BS.

I think the reason they still require a cd check for online play is because there are key generators out there. No-cd cracks invalidate the exe file and you get an error when you connect to the servers. If they remove the cd check then anyone could play online because the no-cd cracks wouldn't be necessary anymore.

HAR, the cd swap fix is tougher than they anticpated. Why don't they just hire some of the hackers who figured out how to play the game without the CD's. Works for everyone else...

How does this help them sell mission packs? If I understand the problem right, it's likely to do the opposite, as if you have no mission packs, any server you join will work with the game CD.

They should just remove the CD check system althogether. Online ony games with cd-keys DO NOT need CD checks. They only hamper the people who buy them not the people who crack them.

Why not just authorize all games running from the same IP. It's easy and alot less controlling. Colleges and universities may get a free ride but may prove well worth it.

There has been alot of modders who have walked away from battlefield because of the controlling issues done on behalf of EA. Weighing one against another it might be better to develop for the xbox because I won't touch an addon from EA for the PC.

Interesting phrase "eagerly anticipated". For those of us who don't visit regularly, that means Blue really wants it

It's even more devious than that...

Whenever you see that phrase, in your mind just substitue "long-awaited," which is a phrase I found long ago pisses developers off so much it's not worth using it. Shhhhh.

translated: EA wants to sell some more Mission Packs...

honestly, does anybody think that this is a bug? and came suddenly and to their surprise ?? EA rather wanted to force people a bit to buy the add-on that's all, IMHO. after (x) patches without such a "bug" this can not be unintentional, no way.

as for cd swapping: use clonecd to rip images of your cd's, then install daemon tools and mount all the images on seperate virtual drives.

Looks like Blue is about to get his wish for the CD swap fix.. although they're taking more time with it than he would have liked.

GOLLY GEE Im glad they're working on CD SWAPPING AND A GAY MAP instead of the RAMPANT HACKERS THAT ARE RUINING THE ENTIRE GAME.

GOOD JOB EA YOU'VE PROVEN YOUR IGNORANCE ONCE AGAIN!

Why is fixing the cd swap proving tricky? There are sites which will offer you a perfect fix made by people who don't even have the source code! Serious, why does it need any CD? Does anyone play this game outside of multiplayer? The AI is a good addition (at least it would be if they weren't thick) but only for co-op, which CD Keys will work for. The only reason I can think of for having a CD check is for LAN matches, and having a CD check just for that isn't worth it, especially as everyone who does any kind of at all serious LAN matching will find something to get around the CD checking without 12 hours of the patch being released.

Interesting phrase "eagerly anticipated". For those of us who don't visit regularly, that means Blue really wants it
