With the new drivers I managed to bump up the resolution to 1024x768 to finish the SP game of Halo, although it was still mega-choppy in places (dipping down to 14-17 fps sometimes). And this was leaving specular, decals, and shadows off, frame limit set to 30 fps. Online I still use 800x600 as that seems to work best.

YES! I finished Halo SP! I wouldn't play it through again if someone paid me.

However in MP I have a fondness for the pistol. It's quite powerful and quick, and able to pick people off at range. There's enough bullets to take down shielding and try to get a quick headshot, otherwise with their shields down I switch to the assault rifle and finish 'em off. Now if they'd only release the map editor... new maps are needed desperately.

Nvidia still dosent allow you to enable certian features that would make there graphic output even better.
For almost a year the Mip mapping was broken but now its fixed even though Nvidia still dosent let you get the full Mip map effect there is a utility that will alow you to unleash the full power of Nvidia.
ill direct you to go here http://www.3dcenter.org/atuner/
and go into the D3D extras panel and set mip to -3.
Nvidia defaults it to 0 but any negitives will display the full mip map effect and youll see the difference in every game you play, Btw it will cost you a few frames but its worth it if you have a power system.

I've noticed a significant improvement in close-quarters combat in Halo with these new drives on my Geforce 3 Ti200. The irony, of course, is that I ordered my new 9800 Pro one day before these drivers were released.

These drivers work fine on my AMD system with BF1942 Remember not all hardware are alike. Just like there are lots of ATI 9XXXX users that can't play Counter-Strike properly. ATI can't replicate this problem so they don't bother. That's one reason why I stick with Nvidia. From looking at the stats, the most popular FPS is counter-strike

To those of you who keep harping on the BF1942 problems, here is a quote straight from the 52.16 release notes:

GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and GeForce4 Ti 4400, Windows XP:
Rendering corruption in Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat. This fix will be included in the next NVIDIA.com driver release.

Plus, there are about 10 other items listed.

If you guys had read the release notes like everyone is supposed to, you wouldn't be having any problems because you would have known to avoid this driver release. What I'm saying is, no one forced you to install the driver, they f'ing told you about the problem ahead of time, it's your own fault you didn't pay attention.

Read the release notes, nothing about a Ti4200 in there.

Well, the "shitty" driver works great for me. I got about "a 10-15% speed increase across the board for DX9 benchmarks. And no instability issues."

Goody for you.

"So, if you don't like the driver, why don't you quit bitching and roll back to 45.x? This new driver not working for you is not the end of life as we know it.. Or do you just like bitching?"

It seems that I'm not the only one having problems with this driver. Maybe hearing about it will save some people the trouble of installing it.

And yes, I do enjoy bitching, so stop bitching about my bitching... bitch.

Thats true but most people have multiple games. And... For Nvidia to release a driver that has issues with a very popular game like BF1942 is just plain wrong.

Where do I get the old driver back????

I did a benchmark for Halo and it did go higher, from 19FPS to 27FPS on my 4400Ti & 2200XP. Not enough though for single player IMO. As for BF1942, if I get a any issues I'll roll back the driver to the 45.23s.

Update: Rolling back...

I did get a performance increase in BF1942 running 800x600 with 100% textures and 4s Quincunt anti-aliasing and 2x anisotropic filtering. This does however, screw up the text a bit, but it looks beautiful with no framerate loss (30+). Really nice.

Before I was at 80% textures with 2x AA. If I go to 1024 x 768 I get laggey.

I've got plenty of RAM actually for now. Altho I'd like to get another 512. Costs money tho. I had no problem spending $35 on a CPU upgrade tho.

And BTW I do stop at stop signs and wait my 3 seconds before I go.

This driver is all out bad. Loss of fps across the board on all benchmarks. I reverted back to 44.03 almost immediately. I have a 5600 and tried out FS2k4 and all the textures look very cheapened and grainy. Worst part is that I blew $200 on a hack-job vid card. Not recommended. C'mon next gen!

I have a Ti4400, and like I said earlier, I have not had any issues with BF1942 or its mods. In fact, it semes to run better. It doesn't hurt to test them out.

If you n00bs would read the release notes you would notice there is issues with BF1942 on the 5950 & 4400Ti. But from what I've been reading here it may affect other cards as well. I own a 4400Ti and love to play the BF1942 mod DC so I guess I'm going to skip these drivers.

They really shouldnt of released these drivers if your flagship card has issues on one of the most popular FPS games out.
