X² - The Threat Euro Delay

This X² - The Threat European release announcement on the Egosoft forums (thank Frans) has word that the European release date of the upcoming space sequel has been pushed back to February 6, 2004. Localization issues are the primary cause cited, though the update also says "This new street date will also allow the developers to enhance even further, key aspects of the game-play and graphics and make the European version of X2 worth waiting for." Meanwhile, the The North American Release announcement says: "The US version is currently on-schedule. We expect Enlight to confirm a release date shortly." Finally, there's an Other Areas announcement that says: "Russian and Australian release dates will appear in this thread when we have them confirmed."

#3: reading between the lines, I expect there'll be a patch for the US version at roughly the same time as the Euro release. The Euro release version will probably contain this first patch.

Not wanting to rain on any parades, but X-Tension wasn't really finished until patch 2.0. For economic reasons (small developer) the X games have quite frankly been released when they're finished *enough* to play, but not when they're finished.

For you Euros, I sympathise, but this is often how it works. Euro versions contain localisation for all the main countries, which sucks for the English speakers who don't need it, but that's just how it is. Deus Ex 2 will also be delayed there for the same reason, by the sound of it.

It's probably easier to find a good North American store that ships overseas. www.dvdboxoffice.com is one.

"No, it's just to make the Euros feel better"

True but it doesn’t make me feel better and I've lost respect for the developers for bothering to make up such shit.

It probably just means the European release will come ready patched to version 1.1. Well worth the wait:( Twats.

Does this mean the american release is going to be a buggy piece of shit?

No, it's just to make the Euros feel better.

Listed at 39.99 too (odd). I'm not certain why they would mark the price down from 49.99 to 39.99. Everything thus far that I've seen/read makes this game look like the shiznit. I wasn't actually expecting this game for a whole year for some reason.

What kind of shity contract did they sign that says they can’t release the game in other English speaking countries even though it’s ready?

Freelancer was shit (it could have been so much more, game had great atmosphere but shitty mechanics). This is Elite to the extreme!

At least the NA release hasn't been delayed.. I just recently started watching this, but it's looking good. It seems to have a lot more cool features than Freelancer.
