UFO: Aftermath Patch

On the heels of today's playable UFO: Aftermath demo (story), the CENEGA Publishing Website also now offers a new version 1.2 patch for the UK/US version of the xenophobic strategy game. The 6 MB patch updates the game to version 1.2, and according to the read me, it addresses save game problems, some crashing bugs, localization issues, video problems, while also implementing some game play tweaks. Thanks Frans.

Sorry about that people. I snapped a little ;). Hope you have no hard feelings Rajajuju. I'm just so sick and tired of people that come barging into some forum, screaming something like "This isn't an exact copy of X-Com, I HATE IT!".

Why can't people use some serious arguments. I don't mind it at all if people say "In this game you can't enter buildings, construct bases and go to different levels. These differences compared to X-Com made it a bad game for me". That is constructive criticism, and I'm fine with that. But when people use the first phrase I mentioned too often, that ticks me off.

As for X-Com games in relation to UFO:Aftermath, there are two kinds. The one that play it for 10 minutes and hate it. The ones that gives it a fair chance, playing it for 20-30 hours, and aren't all that happy with it (that I find rather strange since they played it for so long ;)). And there's the X-Com fans that likes or loves it.

Anyway, the first category rarely gave the game a chance. They played it for 10 minutes and that's it. This game isn't for everyone, by all means, but you should still keep an open mind and give it a chance. You may end up liking it.

Anyway, if I'm to shortly summarize what I liked and didn't like:
- No more base construction is a good thing IMO, though many do not agree. Now it is more important where you place your different bases, since you have so many. I currently have 30, and will have more at the end.
- VERY nice combat system. You have all the time to plan etc. from TB, and the realism from RT. I mostly like TB games like X-Com and Fallout, but this system is better IMO.
- Very cool new "lean around the corner" feature. Adds a lot when you do the capture base and city missions. Seeing your soldier lean around the corner, fire, and lean back is great!

Not so good:
- The new interception movies look very cool, but taking away the control over the fights is ridicules!
- Animations are good, but the graphics aren't all that good.
- No enter buildings isn't that big of an issue for many as we thought it would be, but it's still not a good thing.

These are only a few examples of good and bad sides. Anyway, if you are interested in reviews, we have a list here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/?c=Reviews&p=Reviews

And sorry again to Rajajuju and the rest of you for my rather unprovoked attack ;).

Greetings from Olav (Staff at http://www.strategycore.co.uk, Slaughter)
