Romero & Hall to Midway

Computer and Video Games (thanks Shacknews) has a report up indicating that John Romero and Tom Hall, formerly of id Software and ION Storm, have hooked up at Midway, though the scant detail in the report does not make it clear whether this also means an end to their association with MonkeyStone Games. Here's a bit:
Following information received from sources close to the company, we contacted Midway earlier today and a spokesperson confirmed to us the company has employed the talents of none other than ex-id Software and ex-Ion Storm men John "Don't mention Daikatana" Romero and Tom Hall.

While the spokesperson couldn't confirm the capacity in which these industry stalwarts have been employed, inside sources have informed us that Hall will assume the role of creative director at Midway and oversee all the company's internal projects.

Romero, on the other hand, will, according to our source, re-shape the internal studio and head-up one of Midway's forthcoming games.

I still like that Daikatana mp3 floating around from a few years ago...

And my "sinking ship" comment was aimed at Midway. It's my understanding they've been hemorrhaging money for awhile. They put out crappy games and then wonder why they don't sell...

In another news, I heard Ben Affleck and J.Lo are back together!

I'll have a little more interest and a little less sarcasm when there's a future product or something to discuss

I sure don't.

I don't really care. After hearing comments about him during his working at id Software, I don't think I'd wanna work with/for him.

Daikatana sucked because he partially believed the ads that made him a "gaming god."

Knocked back down to Earth, he might do something entertaining.

He very much deserves it. Sure, he's talented, but he has trouble channeling that talent in the right direction while not letting it get to his head. Attitude is just as important as talent. The fact that he actually let Daikatana out the door and claimed it was a great game just goes to show how twisted his perceptions can get.

It also does not help releasing the first game with a prominent black character, at a time when the industry was being accused of being geared towards the white populous. And calling that character Superfly Johnson. That is just pure Jean-Yus right thar’

He did great work on Doom, but screwed up big time with Daikatana. I don't care one way or another about the man. It all comes down to how gullible the consumer is. I was smart enough to stear clear of Daikatana and never bought into the hype.

It's funny to still see people dwelling on something that happened 5 years ago.

Anyone who is even remotely interested in computer games owes it to themselves to read "Masters of Doom". (if for no other reason than Blue gets a few nods in it) It is quite an entertaining tale of the Carmack/Romero years at id, as well as the paths they followed after their split.

READ THIS BOOK! You'll thank me.
