I think at first everyone assumed that DX : IW would use the "Illuminati" ending, since it was the longest and by far the most plausible. It was at about that time that I started thinking, based on little tidbits that Ion Storm was throwing out (such as that JC Denton himself hadn't been seen for twenty years), that they would go with another ending, possibly the Helios one. That they would use all three endings seemed weird at first, but they could happen simultaneously to an extent. JC kills Bob Page, fullfilling the Illuminati ending, then merges with Helios and blows up Area 51.
The only few things that don't make sense about that story is
A) If JC destroys Area 51, and puts humanity back in the information era equivalent of the Stone Age, the Illuminati have nothing to rule the world with, hence the ending where JC and Dowd are talking about how they rule the world behind the screens is a bit off.
B) If JC blows up area 51, how exactly does Helios survive, and how can it still influence things? For that matter, if they blew it up after they merged, why would Helios let JC do that?
However, I think the world of Sheldon Pacotti's writing talents (for God's sake Sheldon, WRITE A BOOK ALREADY!!), and I have no doubt he'll have the whole thing wrapped up neatly by the end of the game.
I like how the website mentions that the first Deus Ex happened 10 minutes before Armageddon (ie, the destruction of the global communication network), and now we're 20 years ahead, about to rebuild.
This game is going to be absolutely awesome, and everyone who gets it will be "Half Life who?" 20 hours later.
