Nosferatu Gold

Word from iGames Publishing is that Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi has gone gold. Here's the press release:
Nosferatu: The wrath of malachi HAS GONE GOLD

HOBOKEN, NJ – (October 10, 2003) – iGames Publishing today announced that the highly anticipated PC game Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi™ has gone gold. The first person shooter-survival horror game will thrust players into a den of bloodthirsty vampires where intrepid adventurers must use their wits as well as the classic weapons of vampire lore…holy water, wooden stakes and more, to defeat the fanged horrors. Developed by the Swedish studio, Idol FX, the game will be released for PC/CD-ROM on October 20th in time for Halloween.

“The early response to Nosferatu has been tremendous,” said Rick Bosch, CEO of iGames Publishing. “With Nosferatu so close to release, fans are clamoring for their vampire fix before Halloween.”

Delivering a blend of atmospheric survival horror and intense first person shooter action, Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi immerses players in the terror of an ancient, gothic castle full of vampires. With the monstrous undead lurking around every corner, players must search through the shadowy halls and dank dungeons of a massive castle to free their imprisoned friends and family…failure to rescue the prisoners will not only result in their death, but in the resurrection of an ancient supernatural being who will threaten all of mankind. Nosferatu will set players’ spines tingling with dread as vampires spring at them out of nowhere, while gameplay grows increasingly aggressive and violent.

Gamers can visit the website (http://www.nosferatu-game.com/) for a peek into the underworld with screenshots and a chilling trailer. A demo for Nosferatu is available on game file download sites everywhere, including: Happy Puppy, FilePlanet, and GameSpot.

I just tried the demo of this and it didn't look very polished. And now it's gone gold?

At least "goth" isnt as "cool" as it was in the 90s. Most "bats" are very fruity, and equally annoying.

If I had to play with vampires, Id much rather play the new Troika Masquerade game... isnt it going to be a FPS/RPG?

Yeah the new Troika game is FPS/RPG hybrid, powered by Source 'n' all - looks good

At least it gets points for being a horror game... there arn't enough of them around these days... I just might give it a shot... This isnt a console port is it? Because all console port FPS are the biggest excuses for games they try to peddle out to the general public

I remember when White Wolf was a few guys in an apartment that wrote zines. For some reason, I never expected their games to be as... cheesy as they are - although they are good games, they are almost campy in some way. It doesnt seem to gel with their wargamer roots.

But it's nowhere near as good as Undying.

I played the demo and its pretty scary. the polycount on the models isnt that high but you dont really see them that well anyway IF you play it for real at realistic gamma settings. also it looks a bit blurry because there is some kind of overlay on the screen that makes it look like a 1920s or 1930s movie. but that makes it even more scary. I will be buying it for sure!
Oh and it doesnt have those crappy game graphic cut scenes, that most games have nowadays.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

The key thing that makes Nosferatu different to any other first-person shooter out there is that the castle layout changes every time you play it -- think Diablo, but in a first-person shooter! (Not absolutely everything changes -- they wanted you to be able to retain some general idea of where you were and where you need to go -- but most things change).

This has two effects... the first is a certain degree of 'genericness' to the areas. I'm not saying that every room looks exactly the same, but if the demo is representative then you probably won't be exploring any dramatically-changing environments. This is the down side to the feature. The second and more important effect is that the game is highly replayable, and no matter how many times you play it you'll never know what awaits you around the next corner... Malachi's castle will definitely keep you on your toes.

Again, the feature is (to my knowledge) unique in first-person gaming, and IMHO they have done it well enough that the good side decidedly outweighs the bad side (I will be buying it).
