Free Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe

In order to drum up further excitement about the release of Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2 later this month, publisher Gathering has chosen to make the original Hidden & Dangerous available as a free download. The downloadable version has been dubbed Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe, as it not only includes the full version of the WW2 squad-based combat game, but also the Devil's Bridge expansion, all the required patches and updates, as well as the mission editor. The 264 MB download is available from 3D Gamers, Boomtown (registration required), Computer Games Online, FileFront, Filerush, Gamer's Hell, GameTab, Gigex, IGN, Loadedinc (registration required), and Worthplaying. Those without sufficient bandwidth for the large download can also get H&D Deluxe on a CD as a bonus for preordering H&D2 at EB, GameStop, or Best Buy.

Now that it's free, I'd like to play co-op with some peeps. My AIM is jerryku7, yahoo ninjaboy_21. IM me if you're interested in some tcp/ip play (assuming HD doesn't have a server browser program built in)

WTF is up with the Gogex download. Used to be cool, now it downloads a movie and plays it and you can't stop it. Morons!

"I think H&D was first available free on something called Freeloader."

That's it!!! Thanks.

Does anybody here think the graphics in H&D 2 look somewhat odd? Originally, 2 years ago, they looked amazing but lately the screenshots I've been viewing seem to have hi-res characters pasted over extremely low-res scenery. Like in the low budget studio flicks where they had film or paintings in the background, in studio, instead pf location shooting.

As far as Underdogs go, they are okay in my book. I'm not sure what criterea they use to post games (out of circulation, unavailable by any other means for the most part) but they are quick to remove anything requested of them. Often times they remove stuff that is of absolutely no commercial value and is most assuredly unavailable by any other means, but the rights holder, for whatever reason asks them to do so. Which, of course, is their right to.

Underdogs is perfectly fine. If a publisher asks that a game's download be removed, they do it with no questions.

Most of the stuff on there is impossible to find anyways, and they also host a lot of freeware. The only problem is in recent months the updates have slowed to a near stop... the host is apparently leading a very busy life.

www.the-underdogs.org It's completely legal, so don't go freakin out or anything.

They make games available online without the publishers permission. There's nothing legal about it. They even admit that on their site. Having said that, I have no problem with a website hosting older, impossible to find games. I even found one on there that I've been looking for. Some of the games do seem a bit new to be posting online though.

How nice of them. I've always heard that this game was good & I've been really bored lately. I guess it's time to give this a shot.

I think H&D was first available free on something called Freeloader.

Anyhow, good call by Gathering. I paid full price for the original and expansion and also bought the Deluxe edition when it was released, all worth it though.

The Underdogs is the single best abandonware web site... but you dont have to click on banners or anything. Only catch is you can download only one thing at a time.

This game was made available for free a long time ago (well... kind of). It was on some game site that required you to click on banners and interact in some other ways to get the free content. I wish I could remember what it was called.

Only 264 MBs for the whole game... plus expansion? Wow, that's about half the size of some of demos these days. Definitely going to download. I enjoyed the demo alot.

Does the game have multiplayer?

It has 4 player coop multiplayer and its excellent LAN and TCP/IP over Internet.

After you play the game in coop you will wonder why the hell they left coop out of the sequal

Um, amen to that, unfortunately. But yeah, nice move on putting the original H&D out for free. I hope it works as a PR tool but some people just don't want to pay for anything.

Well, you could've gone to see Gigli in theaters, or you can wait for it to be played on TV. Either way, you're screwed.
