Half-Life 2: Delay? Maybe, Playable? Yes

New delay for Half-Life sequel on BBC News (thanks Eraserhead) has a quote from Christophe Ramboz of Vivendi Universal Games on the Half-Life 2 source code theft that takes a completely different direction than the talk of four month delays found in a different article (story), as they have him saying: "Vivendi Universal Games is only the distributor of the product, which is produced by the US studio Valve and so it will up to them to make an announcement." Meanwhile, Thieves steal playable version of Half-Life 2 on CNN Money contradicts reports that downplay the amount of code stolen, choosing to reveal that the Source source thieves "also stole enough game maps and other components to put together a playable build of the game. Today, five days after the first leak, they have released that build."

Vivendi keeps saying the game is postponed and then Valve chimes in...No maybe not.

Since when has a publisher gone out of their way to say a title will be delayed and then have the developer "no, it's not."

Well if HL2 blows when it comes out, Vivendi can't be blamed for rushing it. Hell must be feeling pretty chilly about now...because it aint over yet.

Just noticed that the date on EBgames has changed to 3/31/04, they used to have the date as 11/14/03

Everyone stop being so stupid.

This was *NOT* intentionally released by anyone within Valve or anything like that.

The beta is rather extensive in what it includes.

Hopefully, by 2004 we'll have a game that looks more like the E3 build than this beta.

What are you talking about? The version floating around is newer than the E3 build.

It's not hard to find if you're looking for it. But don't look for it, because that would be wrong.

Well not that I don't trust the inquirer. It's I don't trust valve. Remember the 30th fiasco. Gabe swore up and down that Vivendi was crazy with the november release date. They(Being Valve) didnt' finally admit the game was going to be pushed back until like 6 days before the release date. Personally I don't think Valve knows what the fuck they are doing. So far the only thing they've proven is they know how to make games(not on time mind you). They certaintly don't know how to secure their network. The idiot in charge of that needs to be fired asap.

Dunn, your right, I have personnally just got off the phone with my travel agent having booked a plane ticket to bangladesh!

I figure that with my fairly mediocre to non existant hacking skills i should head out to a likly country and do some good ole fashoined footwork!

I shall report to you all my findings as and when i find information, thats assuming i can find a computer and then some power.

Wish me luck and god speed!

Should anyone else wish to help pick a number from 1 - 192 assign that number a country and then head out there.

OR

Use your L33T hacking skills (which i dont have (see above)) and hunt them down.

...at how few people here are pissed off at these guys who have stolen the code and leaked it.

I'm pretty pissed as should everyone.

Valve has done such a great job in the past of creating products that have supported it's community and all in all has given it everything that is has wanted.

Then members of this very same community steal the code, and the rest of the community just ho's and hum's about the code being stolen and points fingers at the developer and publisher for being idiots or accuses them of trying to pull a cheap marketing ploy.

Wake up people, educate yourselves better about the industry that you are all so quick to criticize, DEMAND things from and point the finger at.

The conspiracy theories are a waste of time space and effort. Everyone here should be freaking out about this theft. Everyone should doing everything that they can to find out who has screwed everyone out of this game until the next year. We should also be freaking out about how these PUNKS have cost A LOT of people one HELLUAVA lot of money.

Thank god for message boards, otherwise I would have downloaded three false links by now.

Valve & Vivendi really seem to have communication problems.

1. Vivendi announce delay
2. Valve deny delay
3. Valve still deny delay
4. Valve confirm delay 1-week before release date
5. Valve announce delay until "holiday"
6. Vivendi announce delay of 6months from original Sept 30th date
7. Valve deny delay
8. goto 1

Does anyone see a pattern developing here?
My guess is that Valve will eventually confirm a delay until 2004 but probably not for a while yet.
