this patch is to prevent pirated online play... unfortunately, there is already a crack for public and private online play.

it takes days to make the patch and <1day to crack it..

I would've creamed in my pants for this news 2 years ago. But now I couldn't give a shit! Fuck Microsoft! Those scumbags ruined a great game that WAS slated for the PC originally!

*smirk* If you'll recall Halo was slated for....the Macintosh! Yes, that's right folks, if you recall that Bungie was a pro-Apple developer for a good long while!

What with the potential for mods and multiplayer, the game could have been a huge success if it had been released on PC two years ago. Now it will be competing against Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex: Invisible War. Unless the other two flop, it's got a snowball's chance in hell.

Unless something big changes (eg. a CS-killer mod comes out for Halo), I won't be buying it.

Yeah M$ pretty much gave a big <finger> to the PC community when they went X-Box only. I mean the architecture of the X-Box is very similar to the PC, so it wasn't for technical issues. It was just so they could push their hardware.

That was the biggest reason I didn't even consider an X-Box, and the biggest reason I won't be buying this title for the PC. I was really looking fwd to it 2 years ago. Now, who gives a flying f***?

this game is sooo bad, it runs at about 1/12 the pace of Q3, which maybe acceptable for console gamers but it just comes off extremely lame for a PC shooter (and no i'm not talking about preformace, just overall pace of the game)

It really does suck badly, cheesy characters/plot, ugly levels and childish characters plus buggy system hog and some very uncomfortable control over your character.

I think the only people who like it are those who cream their pant when they see "the mast0r chief" this game is overated as hell, Unreal2 looks like a masterpiece compared to this POS.

Talk about gaming sites overhyping this game!! The reviews are around the ~80% score. I mean there is really nothing speciall about this game. Nothing at all....sadly. I was really trying to like it but it's down there with chrome, chaser and all the other avarge fps shooters.

The multiplayer can be really fun when they fix the netcode...(which they were developing for what...4 years now?) Let me give you an example:

A warthog is coming at me with 3 people in it, trying to run me over. I got the rocketlauncher so I fire away. The car flyies throu the air in a big explosion killing everyone in the car. I start walking away until....BAM!
I'm dead, cause the server saw it in a whole nother way, cause actually I got run over...I just took a little while to send the information to my computer.

Same thing with guys just running around and suddenly drop dead....cause they were killed...1 min ago...

No it's not my connection that sucks, 20 server below 30 ping pop up all the time in the ingame server browser. People are going insane I tell ya.´;P

This patch do anything to help performance ?

I just don't understand it. The xbox is a p3 733 w/a geforce 3 on crack + 64MB ddr + nforce Motherboard.

Why can a system 3x more powerful not get 3x the performance ?

I was just at another forum where alot of people have run the timedemo on Halo.

The avarge fps is 25! And thats with people who has everything from FX 5900 Ultra and Radeon 9800 Pro, to guys with GF 4 MX!! They all got the same fps! No matter if you run it at 1600x1200 with all the gfx on max, or 640x480 with everything off.

Something is very wrong with this engine...

The framerate is locked to 30FPS unless you turn it off yourself. Both Gearbox and the user are the cause of that stupidity.

Maybe after this patch the server situation might improve. Sounds like they need some good dedicated servers.

in response to you all.. another ms bashing thread. Publisher vs Developer... booring...

ping doesn't mean smooth gameplay. if you have any decent online game set up for ping you could quite easily be sending next to nothing in terms of packets/sec, which will cause bad net performance. I also hope you're commenting on the console code, either that or you're probably talking about a 1.5beta code which slipped out online, which didn't have internet multiplay code, only LAN.

as for the pace of the game.. this isn't quake3. You might take a look at the relatively non-existant quake3 scene now, and kind of realise that fast paced quake rocket jumping isn't for everyone :-) the single player game is perfectly paced, and not that much different to most other modern single player first person shooters.

the single player sucks? t'was the first unscripted interactive squad based shooter with excellent ai, graphics, sound, story and gameplay i'd played, and it was on a console! Been PC gaming since the days of doom and heretic so i've seen them all come and go. Halo was the best and most immersive single player experience after halflife.
Granted, that was a long 2 years ago and a lot changes in gaming in that time. the single player on the pc version offers nothing new. But then considering that halflife1 console conversions came out much after the pc release - and i wonder how many console owners were bitching like a bunch of kids like you are! ;-)

as for halo being soley for mac.. i think, correct me if i'm wrong, that it was slated for pc and mac from day one, or at least very early on. But having the initial game spec change so much in those early days i could be wrong.

as for the patch to address online play. Again, much the same as any modern pc game which requires a cd key, only one person can play with that key - authentication to a master server to check for uniqueness. No amount of cracking will get you on to a authenticated server. There are as with most hacked games tho cracked servers to play on, usually with crap pings, and usually in the case of games like quake3 / cs, full of cheaters. For the amount of time you get for the price of a pc game, hassle free, i can't really see why anyone would want to play illegally online. sux0rs tbh.

oh, plus chances are most of you whiners haven't played it off the xbox. :-)

It's so funny to come on sites like Blues or Shack and see so much hate and anger aimed at Halo. Out of about 10 reviews so far the lowest score it has received was around 87 and almost all of them gave it some award such as "Editor's Choice" or "Top Game" or some other such recognition. Ya know why??? The game is freaking good so just get over it. It will sell well and all the negativity you can muster won't change that.

There...I feel better now.

Halo is a medicore game on or off the console. It's highly overrated and it's gameplay is blown way out of proportion by console fan boys who would go into shock if they ever encountered a game with some REAL gameplay (i.e. System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Half-Life, NOLF, BF1942, DoD, etc., etc.)

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22
Who knows but that, on the lower frequencies, I speak for you?
