its soooo odd because in the timedemo i get 70+frames.. and as i'm watching the timedemo, its super buttery-butt smooth... but ingame, mouselook and everything is smooth as silk, but I move in slowmotion, and every character in the game moves in slowmotion..and i fire my gun in slow motion.... its as if i'm playing the game in bullet time.... freakin weird, gearbox needs to get their act togeather if there releasing a $50 game that does this crap.

Just add -timedemo into your shortcut for Halo. Or.. better yet, copy your Halo shortcut and add -timedemo in there.

The MP is a bit laggy sometimes but anything under 100 is good and anything sub 50 is great.

Only problem...LAMESPY. WHen will companies stop using that POS software. It's enough to turn people off from online gaming it's so bad.

How a company can survive as long as they have with such a shitty product absolutely boggles the mind. Leave it to Gearbox to be too lazy to a proper in-game browser.

Well here is mine.. seems the same as yours, what other things did you have running? AA? AF? I was at 1280xwhatever. The sound was all screwy though.

How do you get the shader to 2.0? Why am I stuck at 1.4? And anyone know the best (so far) release of the Catalyst drivers?

Being a Xbox owner I have to say the reason why they waited so long is because the Xbox did not have another top flight exclusive title like HALO until Star Wars KOTOR came it out a couple of months ago. HALO still was the exclusive title that helped sell the Xbox. So I can understand why they waited so long.

The reason why it has so many problems is because:
1) it's gearbox
2) they added directx 9 support
3) Had to write multiplayer code.

BTW if you own a FX nvidia card, except probably the 5900, that is your frame rate problem not the game. The FX nvidia cards are having trouble with DirectX 9 effects hopefully when they release the new drivers nvidia owners will see a significant gain in frames.

it really is a shame that a toddler's response to not getting his way is the Bluesnews reaction to Halo.

OK, but I still kinda think its pretty crappy what M$ did...and I can see wanting to get the game so its an exclusive and all that (because they couldnt make their own friggin game that would people buy an Xbox), but I can't see waiting so long to get it to PC gamers, and I cant see any excuse for problems after so long. I also cant justify $50 for it anymore - it's old news - and it sure doesnt seem like anyone gave a crap about convincing the PC gamer to part with his/her $50.

I sure enjoy watching this whole sideshow though...and for the hell of it, I'll curse a few names

A friend of mine got a few fps boost by forcing halo to use pixel shader 1.1 rather than his cards supported 1.3

halo.exe -use11

He says it didn't make a large amount of visual difference. A test with my system didn't yield much increase for me.

I don't know why so many people are getting bad frames (except for the ATI peeps).

I'm running at 800x with everything maxed (shadows off) and I have yet to see a stutter apart from load transitions which only stutter for a second.

I'm running a Athlon 1.7ghz XP/512mes/Gef4 4200 (128meg), ATA100 HD.

At 1024 I can still run it all maxxed (with shadows and specular off) and onyl have the odd short stutter during a heavy battle.

It's a pretty good game. I love the vheicles, although the controls feel a little spongy (same with jumping). The environments are nice, although the stuctures are a bit monotonous. Still pretty fun (although I'd say HL and Vietcong were more fun).

Haven't tried MP yet.

Panick, either sometign is wrong with Halo, or may something is screwey w/your system. I have a MUCH older slower system, and I am only getting 20FPS. I would think you could be doubling or triping that with your system. Do you have the framerate lock off in the game? I think it comes locked at 30fps.

Alright, I picked up Halo this afternoon and have so far really enjoyed it. Yes, the game's level design sucks dick and it all chugs like hell. Despite that I still think this is an awesome game. I don't think I have ever played a shooter with combat this satisfying, maybe with the exception of SoF1.

I guess I really don't understand why the XBOX exclusive has to ruin Halo for everyone because it really is a good game, overrated by the consolites but still very much a good game. I suppose I shouldn't waste my time trying to convince you all that Halo is worth your gaming dollar but it really is a shame that a toddler's response to not getting his way is the Bluesnews reaction to Halo.

I would like to see what everyone gets in the timedemo.
Just ad -timedemo to the exe file and run it. It will run a few maps and then shut down. In the Halo folder there will be a timedemo.txt where the results are.

Like this:

Date / Time: 2003-10-02 01:10:39 (16915500ms)
3200MHz, 1024MB, 256M nVidia GeForceFX 5900 Ultra (DeviceID=0x0330) Driver=6.14.10.4523 Shader=2.0
G:\Games\Halo\halo.exe -window -timedemo (Version=1.0.0.564)
Frames=4700
Total Time=179.19s
Average frame rate=26.23fps
Below 5fps= 10% (time) 0% (frames) (18.004s spent in 14 frames)
Below 10fps= 16% (time) 2% (frames)
Below 15fps= 24% (time) 5% (frames)
Below 20fps= 38% (time) 15% (frames)
Below 25fps= 42% (time) 18% (frames)
Below 30fps= 65% (time) 42% (frames)
Below 40fps= 83% (time) 65% (frames)
Below 50fps= 89% (time) 76% (frames)
Below 60fps= 95% (time) 87% (frames)
Memory used Max=162MB, Min=130MB, Ave=150MB

Now I think that i got a pretty good computer, and my fx 5900 ultra is also överklocked to 519/938.

So why do i get 26 fps?! Believe me that people arent getting alot better then this. I ran it in 1024x768 with all gfx on highest.

Edit: yeah I ran it in widown but it's no different from fullscreen. I tried it, same result...

The game runs like a$$. It's better on multiplayer, but single player is horrible.

My specs:
P4 2.4B
768 MB DDR 2700 RAM
GeForce 4600Ti
80GB 2700 RPM HD w/ 8MB Cache

For it to run at a sustained 30fps (yes, 30 with a t):
800x600
Antialiasing Off
Intellisample Off
Shadows Off

I know my machine isn't a high-end gaming rig anymore, but this is horrible.

That's after chaning the vsync options. The fps dip constantly.
