Half-Life 2 Console Plans

A report on Computer and Video Games (thanks Frans), showing contempt for other site's speculative posts on the topic, gets confirmation from Valve that the Xbox is the only console system currently targeted for a port of Half-Life 2, quoting Doug Lombardi as saying: "At this point, there are no plans to publish a version [of Half-Life 2] for either of Sony or Nintendo's current systems." They then proceed to speculate on the likelihood of PS3 and GameCube 2 versions of the game, based on Doug's comment that: "Valve is obviously interested in hearing more about their [Sony and Nintendo] next-generation plans and discuss the possibilities of doing something with them."

I think that's most developer's main problem with the Cube, compared to the Xbox: 24 less megs of RAM. I didn't think the lower amounts would be a problem (with the supposedly super-fast 1T-SRAM), but I remember reading an interview with the company that ported Red Faction 2 saying it was hard to get it running on the Cube because of less RAM-although it does have more RAM than the PS2...maybe it's just because it's not unified. Can anyone clarify the RAM on the Cube? I'm not sure I remember totally. I do think Half-Life 2 could be ported, though, albeit with a substantial investment-they [iould[/i] rewrite the code completely, using only the maps and scenarios from the original game-it would could a little less than a total game, and carrying the Half-Life name...it could sell very well.

Regardless, I'm playing it on the PC.

Oh, and about joypads vs. kb/m vs. weelchairs? Weelchairs have a few too little buttons. Personally, I prefer a console controller to the kb/m setup for all but FPS and strategy games. For an adventure game, the analog joystick is really a must.
