Half-Life 2 Delayed

Shacknews has finally received official word that Half-Life 2 will not be making its planned release date of September 30, something a quick glance at the calendar can confirm. Here's the quote from Valve's Doug Lombardi:
The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

...Even though you pretty much expected that, at this point, without any announcements in the past few weeks, it would be delayed. They started out strong, but the claims became more and more ambiguous and content-free.

shacknews.com must get a lot more traffic than bluesnews does cuz bluesnews posted this info only a short while after shacknews did, and shacknews already has over 200 posts in their forums just about the half life 2 delay.

I wonder if this thread will be that big?

I was pretty sure it wouldn't make the date, as I think alot of others were, and I heard it said that Vavle and Vivendi wont be hurt because the delay just means that so many are talking about it. Free publicity really...

i bet id is feeling stupid now for pushing back doom3 so they could have doom3 release 3-4 months after half life 2 to boost sales, and how half life 2 will be coming out damn near the same time as doom3. oh well, half life 2 still has my money over doom3 as far as what game i buy first.

Pat yourselves on your back for not being like all the other companies, hyping the hell out of their products and never shipping them. Way to really break the mold! woohoo!

...Also great of them to wait till 7 days before day of release to announce it's delay. Breaking new grounds here! Boy they must have been really close to making that september 30th date to wait so long to announce a delay.... oh.. wait.. no... Holiday release! This is all just so surprising!

Lovely. They maintained that it was still on target for the 30th until one week before, and then suddenly it's a 'holiday' release? They just now realized they need another three months? Valve damned well knew they would miss this date weeks ago, the lying bastards.

I think they were still hoping to have the steam release on the 30th. I can see why they would delay up until now for the announcement. But you all need to remember that they havn't said they would release on the 30th since the game was announced what 4 months ago? All the interviews and such have said some like "Well we are hoping for the 30th, but holidays is a better guess"

Personaly the date i've been excepting it on was 11/30/2003. Which is what most websites you can buy it from list.

Now we can all laugh at the dorks who upgraded their systems and videocards in the last couple of weeks for nothing.

By the time HL2 and Doom3 come out there will be a whole new generation of videocards to pick from and the 9800Pro will not be at the top of that heap.

If you are going to keep a game secret for over 4 years you would think you'd choose to unveil it when you're damn sure that it would be ready for prime time with the 4 month release date. If and all they had decided it will be done on the sept. 30th, they should have add 2 months to it to begin with incase of a delay or problems.

Plus it's even worse having to have gone through dozens of freaking rumors it's been delayed that caused yelling and confusion each time and then being reassured each time it's the 30th.

Then 7 days till release a single e-mail to some small site saying it's delayed is a pathetic way of telling everyone.

So odd that this could be another cruel joke. With something so important you think you could say it on your site.

At least though we'll have the benchmark and Halo to keep us busy. God, I bet Microsoft is happy that this just happened, talk about releasing a game at just the right time when crazed gamers are itching for something on their new maching now that HL2 is gone.
