Pre-ordering is a joke if you're doing it by mail, because it usually arrives a day after everyone else gets it. Yes, I've heard of some stories where people get it a day early, but they're rare.
Just goto EB on the release date at lunch, and they'll have lots of copies.
I don't see any reason to pre-order games.

Because pre-ordering saves me the trouble of going to the store. And the trouble of keeping tabs to know when the game is actually out. (Yes, I know, I'm saying this from the standpoint of having time to post comments on Blue's. But I'm normally a lot busier.)

I don't particularly care about getting the game a day later. I enjoy games, but they're not *that* important.

I am the only one who doesn't care that much for HL2 but is more excited about the PC port of Silent Hill 3?

I'm pretty sure that SH3 will surpass HL2 infinitely concerning mood and gaming experience.

Does anyone know when the port is going to be released?

I love it when this stuff happens. It just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside by NOT buying the latest and greatest in computer hardware to run such high end vaporware.

I've been waiting for this news. I thought it was either delayed or they didn't want anyone to know it had gone Gold yet.. if it's even possible to hide that.

they probably DO overcompansate and STILL get it completely wrong because of their sheer incompetance.

I won't trek out on anyone, but how come, as someone else way back 8 pages ago mentioned, after 4 yrs of dev time, can't they release on time. Keep their mouths shut till release time. I would think, with the amount of people on the net now playing games, that although demand would blow up store shelves, a "it's gold" all of a sudden would more than likely put out a buying spur more than preparing us, then delaying us, then delaying us some more.
Honestly, at this point, if a company designing some new technology can actually release on the day they say, they win the prize. the ULTIMATE prize, because history shows, it can't be done, and never really has.

But on to my point.
Scotty didn't become the miracle worker he was, by saying "yes, I can get this repair done in 24 hours, and having it done in 24 OR more hours, he always over-compensated, so when he got done, it was ahead of schedule, and he was and still is the king of all federation ships because of this. Just thought I would point out some good logic to the game developers out there. you guys like star trek too damnit, learn a lesson or two!

Really? I got Quake III arena before it even hit the stores when I pre-ordered. Inface I got C&C Generals Zero Hour in the mail before it even hit the stores the sameday!

actually, im kinda glad it was delayed the more I think about it. I couldn't even imagine the number of pissed off people that would be flooding this board given the requirements of this game, and the current problem with nVidia.

I bought an FX 5900 recently, and I am waiting to see if the new det drivers help with the problems. If not, I need to find some idiot to buy my 5900 for $100 so I can pick up whatever the newest ATI is this xmas (9800/9900?).

nVidia better find a workaround for this problem, or this will be the last board I buy from them. I will also make sure everyone I know goes ATI for the rest of my life.

Yes it's Nvidias fault. Oh oh can I play? I bet ATI pays bucketloads of money to valve and told them to wait to the last minute so they can keep selling the 9800 pro cards. Then a few weeks later down the road the same people will sell their 9800 pro and then get the new 9800 XT!

I supposed Valve just had to drop another bombshell in the wake of all the recent DOOM3 press. When all this is over somebody has to make a documentary about how one puppet was controlled by two puppet masters.

I dont see why everyone thinks Valve and id are so bothered about how good each others games are. Its not an either/or choice: most of us will buy both, and those that dont out of some sort of grudge are so stupid they'd probably be incapable of turning on their computer anyway.
Anyone that's seen any info on either game can see that the games are so different in every way other than the fact they are both fps, so if either game is great or awful, it'll be so in its own right rather than because of the respective quality of the other game.
