Half-Life 2 Delayed

Shacknews has finally received official word that Half-Life 2 will not be making its planned release date of September 30, something a quick glance at the calendar can confirm. Here's the quote from Valve's Doug Lombardi:
The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

Halo is okay for the PC, It's shiny and all, but still plays like an older game. I'm only a little bit in, so I don't have much to say. Hopefully the retail plays faster.

Well, that changes my plans for the fall. Anyone have a good alternative. I'm sick and god damned tired of the crap being passed off for games at the store today.

I love the shacknews forums.. here are some quality posts about this topic:

"WHY DOES GOD DO THIS TO ME?! "
---
"I have felt a great disturbance in the force; as if a million voices suddenly cried out in terror."
---
"FUCK YOU VALVE SOFTWARE "
---
"sometimes I run, sometimes I cry. "
---
"In other news , DNF has also been delayed. "
---
"Valve has changed engines"

---

I don't know what is more entertaining, Shacknews' commenters or Bluesnews' frederickson!

I don't recall anything about the original HL delay, mainly because I was Mac user then, but I just saw pics of the game at the point where they decided they just weren't happy with it and overhauled the whole game. This time the game already looks great so I don't foresee a 1 year delay on this one other than a couple months at most to get it all smoothed out.

If I was in charge of things at Valve I would've announced this next month.

The Shacknews forums are always good for a quick laugh now and again. Ironically enough that's how I found out about this.

I supposed Valve just had to drop another bombshell in the wake of all the recent DOOM3 press. When all this is over somebody has to make a documentary about how one puppet was controlled by two puppet masters.

Sorry about the small site remark, I meant in the scale between fan or game news sites to offical game company sites like Sierra or Valve.

I don't know which is sadder, the people going "fuck you, valve! you ruined my life" or the even sadder muppets who take delight in the fact that other people wanted to play the game.

Look, Valve doesn't owe you anything. If they've pushed back the release date it's probably for a good reason. Remember HL1? It was delayed by nearly a year and was a lot better for it. Some other devs could learn from this coughENTERTHEMATRIXcough. I'd rather have the game work properly then have to pay for their beta testing coughSWGALAXIEScough.

Get over it. it'll be out when it's out.

Has anyone actually considered the fact that a single email to shacknews kinda seems a little weird. I mean, sure, they might be having "mail problems" *cough* but I think everyone needs to wait and see what happens before spouting off about how much it sucks.

shacknews.com must get a lot more traffic than bluesnews does cuz bluesnews posted this info only a short while after shacknews did, and shacknews already has over 200 posts in their forums just about the half life 2 delay.

No, there's just more whiners over there, Blue has a higher quality of whiner.

PR at it's finest I wonder how long it will be before they polish it and rush it out the doors because of angry fans.

Valve to gaming public: It's a week before release, come back and talk to us in two or three months btw, FU!

Hmmm, okay. What's keeping them? Are they actually all that behind in development? Did they decide to wait until they had boxed copies for the retail chains? (I was hoping for a Steam release in advance of the retail, which might have shipped to coincide with the 9800XT) Did they wake up and realize Steam needs a helluvalot more work?

edit: I cn spel

Ah well. Looks like Halo Pc might actually sell pretty well now.

Noticed how they have the words "in-store" in quotes for saying there is no release date. Is that a hint that there still might be a date that is already set for Steam around the corner?

Yeah, it looks like Halo is the next cool FPS shooter in line to come out.

Give me Halo4PC and I can easily forget about HL2 for a couple of months.
