Half-Life 2 Delayed

Shacknews has finally received official word that Half-Life 2 will not be making its planned release date of September 30, something a quick glance at the calendar can confirm. Here's the quote from Valve's Doug Lombardi:
The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

Why can’t they release proper press statements instead of randomly emailing individuals?

I bet it’s overrun because of the time wasted trying to make Nvidia shitware work

they typically get over 3000 comments twice a day in their ER and FP topics.

Most of it inane tripe, but there are always a few gems of good fun in it. Their post count on this topic is around 950 already.

Looks like I'll have time for Homeworld 2 and Halo PC afterall.

this is not surprising at all, I saw it coming all along most game companys announce the game going gold LONG before the release date to ensure that it will be on most shelves by the targeted date(sept. 30) UNLESS they were planning on GOING gold on the 30th.

I really dont care that they delayed it but why wait a week before the release date to say its "delayed" I mean they had to know a LONG time ago that they werent gonna make that date so what gives? seems very unprofessional like they are try to hype the game even more than the fans are.

I wonder if this has something to do with faulty new copy protection ? They just tried it with Jedi Academy and now a zillion legit users can't get the game to work without a no-CD crack and the #$%@ is hitting the fan. I remember when HL1 came out and they forgot to print the access code on a ton of the CDs. I imagine they may be a bit nervous about a repeat of something like that.

Honestly if you didn't see this coming then you must be blind as a bat.

Frankly, who cares. Waiting is an art that tests patience, something which people around in the gaming community have exactly zero of.

shacknews.com must get a lot more traffic than bluesnews does cuz bluesnews posted this info only a short while after shacknews did, and shacknews already has over 200 posts in their forums just about the half life 2 delay.

they typically get over 3000 comments twice a day in their ER and FP topics.

The delay doesn't surprise me at all, but I have about 50 bajillion games to finish right now anyway. I'll have no trouble keeping occupied.

Wouldn't count on it at all if they are being bundled w/Half-Life 2.

Have you seen the prices for those card on Pricewatch lately. They're about $200! Thats pretty cheap for high end cards.

Funny, I think today was also the day they decided not to delay the Recall, and keep the Oct. 7 date. I guess HL2 got delayed instead.

Did Halo go through any delays?

I was hoping it would, but didn't really expect it. Oh well, at least now I know I can buy other products without hesitation of whether it will or will not be out.

"Heck, by the holidays the 9800 & 5900 cards should be really cheap."

Wouldn't count on it at all if they are being bundled w/Half-Life 2. That's why Gabe made all this hype about how Nvidia will barely be able to run HL2. So that ATI sales go up this holiday season.

Therefor don't expect any prices drops. At least until ATI comes out with another card or HL2 hits the bargain bin.

By the way, anyone who didn't see this coming is completely naive. Half Life owns this christmas now that DOOM 3 is out of the picture. They don't need to be in a hurry, and they are taking advantage of that fact.
