Half-Life 2 Delayed

Shacknews has finally received official word that Half-Life 2 will not be making its planned release date of September 30, something a quick glance at the calendar can confirm. Here's the quote from Valve's Doug Lombardi:
The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

more like 0% savings... most often you will pay more money because they drop the price like a week after and then you have to find your receipt and go back for the 5 dollars that doesn't even seem worth it

See, I figured Half-life 2 would come out indeed on the 30th via steam (before this little email) and go Gold at the same time.

So I went ahead and ordered my new fucking high end system so it would arrive a week after the 30th, that way it would leave time for it to arrive in stores...

Now I am totally fucked, in 2 months the price of the pc I bought would have lowered by a couple of hundred, and new better hardware would be available.

I could care less if half-life was delayed BUT they fucking should have said something way earlier because I know others that have upgraded or bought new pc's and it was just a waste of money.

I'm surprised anyone is concerned that HL2 is delayed when we have a sleeper blockbuster right here!

Valve never came out and said Half-Life 2 was a for sure release on Sept 30th, but they never said it wasn't going to either. Ever since the word got out from Vivendi, Valve has been icnredibly incompetant with their PR reguarding the release. They'd avoid any questions about it, and waited til NOW, 6 DAYS BEFORE RELEASE, to tell us.

Yea, I'm sure they didn't know it wasn't going to make it sooner... ook valve. Look at me i'm almost convinced that you didn't screw thousands of people into thinking you were going to release your game on time.. maybe you should use that 8 million you got from ATI to buy yourself some damn mannors, huh?

It's obvious to me that the real reason HL2 has been delayed is that Valve just saw the latest previews of Doom 3 and freaked out because they don't have 4-person peer-to-peer deathmatch built into the game. That, and HL2 doesn't have enough 'shadows'.

How much of a dolt do you have to be to EVER rely on a release date. I don't care what the company may or may not say.

I will agree that company's should hold to the basic PR statement "When it's done..." and should never quote dates, but even of they do, your an unadulterated dolt to get any hopes up.

Oh and by the way... I hope your wife never gets pregnant and they give you a projected birth date.....we don't need any whiny offspring!

Stupid fucking whiners. Cry about games that get delayed.
Cry about games that get released with bugs.

Guess what, it's one or the other.

I agree. My comments were aimed at those who are nonplussed by the recent news. Anyone with half a brain knew this was coming.

BTW, if you really want to let Valve know how you feel, here is their phone number. You can get specific people's extensions (like Doug Lombardi, or Gabe Newell), by touch-toning in their name at the prompt. Have fun!

Pre-ordering is a joke if you're doing it by mail, because it usually arrives a day after everyone else gets it. Yes, I've heard of some stories where people get it a day early, but they're rare.
Just goto EB on the release date at lunch, and they'll have lots of copies.
I don't see any reason to pre-order games.

Holy shit, I forgot that WWIII came out yesterday. It any good?

If you like KMFDM, then yeah it is great. It is somewhat reminiscent of the ANGST album. WWIII starts out with a "Deliverance Banjo Duel" and explodes into a fierce heavy sonic array of musical bliss that is the one, the only, KMFDM.

If it doesn't affect anyone else, then do it.

Correct, but still, a lot of thingiemajigies have problems like, ehm, steam. wait a month or two. I know that both steam and the release date being pushed has a lot of people pissed. But give both steam and hl2 a couple of months. Who would want a buggie program thrown in the face. But that i mean HL2 not steam, which had bugs and should be fixed soon.
