Serious Sam 2 Update

Croteam's Get Serious Website has an update on progress on Serious Sam 2, describing how happy they are with the decision to create a new version of the Serious engine, and how the tools for the Serious Engine 2 are already in workable shape, and their intention of releasing a technology demo/benchmark "in the near future." Thanks xxzen.

I loved Serious Sam SE. It's not usually the kind of game I go for. But once I accepted it for what it was I had a blast playing it. You know, I just finished Deus Ex last night for the sixth time and I'm fresh out of games to play. I think I'll dig this one back up and give it another run through.

I picked up Serious Sam: SE in the bargain bin the other day and installed but I'm getting a sort of jery mouse-movement that makes aiming impossible. I've tried different combinations of the in-game controls settings but haven' found anything that works yet. I've got the lastest patch for the game, too. It's not the framerate since everything seems smooth. I notice my crosshair seems to slightly shrink and expand as I pan it across the screen, almost as if some kind of auto-targeting is turned on (but it's not).

Any ideas on what I should try?

Specs: Asus A7N-8X, Athlon XP 2600, Geforce 2 Ti (latest detonators--sort of; they're a mix of 45.43 and a slightly older version so I can run C&C: Generals), 512 MB RAM, WinME

" and also it's going to be of great help to MOD community, as you won't need to have Visual C++ any more to create code for your MOD."

It's mod. Not MOD. It's not an acronym, people. Stop the case lock abuse.

That said, I'm glad they wont require VC++ to code for it anymore.

Silent Sorrow, is mouse smoothing enabled? If so, disable it. Other than that I have no idea.

Oh, and I too look foward to this game. I loved the first two. Mindless action and fun.

Actually it is an acronym ...

No it's not - an acronym is the initials of several words, like U.S.A. (minor words aren't usually used, like of). This is an abbreviation, which shouldn't be capitalized. The acronym finder page you linked to is subtitled "Acronyms & Abbreviations".

Just being an asshole too

EDIT: Oh yeah, I thought SS:SE was SS2, sorted now.

Either way, "MOD" is an acceptable abbreviation. Yes, it's fun being an asshole.

I really enjoyed the first two encounters. I worked with the engine for a long time as well (on a couple of budget titles), and it was one of my favorites. I can't wait to see what these Croatians cook up for their new engine and tools, and of course it will be a blast to play, too.

I don't think USA is strictly an acronym either -- unless people have started pronouncing it "oosa" without my noticing. An acronym has to be a word, like radar or laser.

"I worked with the engine for a long time as well (on a couple of budget titles)"

what other games use the serious engine? i did not realise there are any.

ohh and who wants to bet the new engine will use lots of partial presision shaders and anything else they can to make the fx look good? best i can tell nvidia has croteam in it's pocket.

I know Carnivores: Cityscape used Serious tech, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.
