Serious Sam 2 Update

Croteam's Get Serious Website has an update on progress on Serious Sam 2, describing how happy they are with the decision to create a new version of the Serious engine, and how the tools for the Serious Engine 2 are already in workable shape, and their intention of releasing a technology demo/benchmark "in the near future." Thanks xxzen.

I'm just wondering what they'll be doing to go up against the new competition they've spawned in the likes of Painkiller and Will Rock. Having played through the dramatic and novel setpieces of the 2nd Encounter, I do have faith in them.

Hear, hear! Exactly why the SS series was a subtle hit. Along with whiz bang, colorful graphics. And shoot em up fun. I hope they don't stray too far from the story line because its still fun.

Also Nitro Family (due X-mas 2003) is SE tech and a few other games have been spawned from the engine...one has 3000AD in the name i know that and the other is Alpha black zero (which is looking quite nice btw)

Now I just wonder if I'll be in the credits again in SS2...hmm

Damn Rodzilla beat me to it, oh well

I was about to say the same; that is the way the game is supposed to be. But to really understand the Serious Sam games you have to have been a long time gamer (Mainly PC) and community veteran. There are so many inside jokes, both subtle (The Duke Nukem Forever telephone booth call), and not so (1 word: Crates). It's a brilliant series and I hope it continues on triumphantly.

Look, you don't go capitalizing words just because you truncated the word, not in an language on Earth that I'm aware of (and definately no matter what some web site like that says).

Heh, look what's been kicked off here!

Being an Eww! citizen is pretty bad, but I live in the Yuck!, which is a member of Eww!

FWIW, I think SS's gameplay was pretty dated when it came out anyway. It was just the guys with exploding heads and buffalo monsters that made the gameplay fun, not it's new game mechanics or great plot.

Cheers,

21: Serious sam was created for that reason, an alternative to these new generation of FPS's that turn out to be tactical shooters, while those are good, people want mindless shooting sometimes, I for one hope it doesnt change because I enjoy the mindless killing it offers and would like to see it with an engine like the X-ray or Crytek engines.

abbreviation, initialism, acronym, hurrah.

Look, you don't go capitalizing words just because you truncated the word, not in an language on Earth that I'm aware of (and definately no matter what some web site like that says).

If you did, then I'd be calling SAM like yelling at him, you would point loudly at that MOUNT over there, and pretty soon we'd be celebrating XMAS by sending EMAILS over the NET.

Acronyms are capitalized specifically to indicate that the letters stand for other words. People starting capitalizing mod because it started to become a marketing term and/or they were feeling particlarly L33T that day. As someone who mods frequently, I'd prefer we stopped yelling the word typographically.

ac·ro·nym

A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging.

in·i·tial·ism

An abbreviation consisting of the first letter or letters of words in a phrase (for example, IRS for Internal Revenue Service), syllables or components of a word (TNT for trinitrotoluene), or a combination of words and syllables (ESP for extrasensory perception) and pronounced by spelling out the letters one by one rather than as a solid word.

So USA is an initialism, MOD is an abbreviation, and today we were brought to you by the letter T and number 7. You might be oosa citizens, and that's pretty bad until you think about me being an Eww! (EU) citizen.

Anyway... I might just go kill a sirian werebull now all this sam talk has whetted my appetite...

No. 9, I'm pretty sure I tried it with smoothing off and there was no difference. I'm wondering if I should also turn off mouse accel under properties in Windows. But then that might screw up other games like Quake 3. Sigh.

Actually it is an acronym ...

MOD Modify

some people seem to be confused:

acronym e.g.: ASAP = As Soon As Possible
abbreviation e.g.: mod = modification

either way Croteam really need to do some drastic changes to the gameplay or SS2 will look old.

I had enough after SS, SS:SE and Will Rock and even if those games are fun for a while, after fighting endless spawning enemies you really want to get over with it and try something new... Doom it isn't!

"I worked with the engine for a long time as well (on a couple of budget titles)"

what other games use the serious engine? i did not realise there are any.

ohh and who wants to bet the new engine will use lots of partial presision shaders and anything else they can to make the fx look good? best i can tell nvidia has croteam in it's pocket.
