Out of the Blue

The service for my mom was lovely... those of us in her family were somewhat aware of her influence in her field (a retired school principal turned educational consultant) and her extended group of friends, but a crowd of more than 450 attendees was a bit more than most of us expected, and I've never seen a more touching funeral.

Obviously, my own process will be more drawn out, but I think it's about time to put this to rest as a topic on the site here. Thanks once again for all the support so many of you have showed, and also thanks to those of you who availed themselves of the donation links I posted yesterday. And to the couple of griefers who chose to twist this all to their own uses, you are forgiven... my mom would have wanted it that way. =]

My mom was a great person, and I will miss her every day of my life, but it's been great being able to share her with you and others these past few days, and I thank you for that. And remember, Carpe Diem.

I went through the same thing last year (my Dad), and, at least in my case, the healing has taken plenty of time.

Hang in there Blue/Stephen, the community is here for you.

When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny, almost impalpable drop of their essence, the vast structure of recollection

-Marcel Proust

it has been 11 months for me and I still cannot look at pictures or video events of my mother... I don't think I ever will be able to... although I think I am healing pretty well.

I simply use all of the great memories of my mother and that brings an instant smile to my face... the "vast structure of recollection" is what I use to get through each day.

but, boy do I miss my mother...

LOL what a fool! It takes an incredible amount of work to get accepted into the AirForce Academy, and what does he do? He wrecks his potential career by running a porn site from his dorm. Hahah that's not going to look good on his record.

Once again Blue, I'm really sorry about your loss mate. I'm heaps encouraged by your attitude though. What a fantastic turnout to your mum's funeral! What a way to say goodbye and to celebrate who she was.

I was thinking over the weekend, and still holding out a faint bit of hope that we will see the "Half-Life 2 gone gold" headline any day now. I seriously doubt it, but I don't think that the Sept 30 release date was ever "officially" ruled out...

And if it isn't released next week- at least my flight sim hardware should be arriving in the next few days- and that should keep my occupied for a while.

I have a friend who has pre-ordered HL2 and is absolutely fanatical that it will be released on time. He's kinda new to the idea of waiting for games to be released, until now he's always been buying games that are at least 6 months old. I'm trying to break him gently into the real world where game dates slip... and slip... and sliiiiiiip.
