New Half-Life Natural Selection

A new version 2.01 of the Natural Selection mod for Half-Life is now available. The update is a server-only patch, so no downloads are required for clients. Thanks Tiscali Games.

There's a whole forum topics on steam and NS... basicly there's a walk around way to get steam to see any mod. Something about creating folders with the mods names in the steam folder and making a few shortcuts.

Honestly I think NS is one of the few good mods left for HL, and I don't see myself moving to steam anytime soon if they keep things broken.

Does the patch make NS compatible with Steam? Or do I have to delete steam, reinstall half-life from the CD, manually patch and then redownload NS? God what the fuck was Valve thinking.

Note that I was talking about the new game mode, not NS2.01...

I don't think I'll be playing it... but I'm not complaining about new content. Besides, NS 2.01 is definately playable in its current state. I think I can live with where it is now.

Have you guys heard about the new game mode being developed?

Taken from http://www.natural-selection.org/

"The NS Team is starting to explore new gameplay modes for NS, especially ones to work with small numbers of inexperienced players. So it's our pleasure to announce that we're starting development on "Natural Selection: Combat"!

Natural Selection: Combat is a fast and furious alternate NS gameplay mode, where waves of marines and aliens fight each other in a short timed game. Players are rewarded for kills by gaining access to better equipment, upgrades, abilities or lifeforms. A team wins if it has a higher combined level when the time elapses, or manages to kill the entire team at once."

Sounds shit to me, and kind of defeats the whole point of Natural Selection. Take away the strategy and you might as well be playing CS. I just hope it doesn’t waste too much time to implement, because there are plenty of other areas in NS that need some love.
