Shadowbane Expansion Announced

Shadowbane Universe Expands is the press release revealing plans for an expansion pack titled The Rise of Chaos for Shadowbane, Wolfpack Studios' MMORPG. The add-on is slated for release in time for this year's holiday season, and will offer a new playable race, new classes, and more. Here's a bit:
Shadowbane: The Rise of Chaos features new high-level content, and a new race, the Nephilim, a chaotic fusion of demon and man that has arisen from the forces of darkness. In addition, the expansion provides new character classes, disciplines, an additional character slot, two new macro zones, and enhanced environmental graphics. Shadowbane: The Rise of Chaos is being designed and developed by Wolfpack Studios, based in Austin, Texas, and is operated and supported by Ubisoft's online gaming division ubi.com(tm), among the top five gaming portals in the world.

Heh, don't you have to be a little desperate to tell people how great your gaming portal is ranked in the world (according to some no doubt unbiased and accurate source). : )

Still, I wish the best to Wolfpack... their game had some cool ideas.

It was fun during beta. You knew where to hunt, and got kicked off the newbie island when you hit.. 15 or whatever it was. I hear now you have all these conditions and timers you have to meet in order to siege.. used to be you could just rush a town and start going nuts. For a game like this I'd think that simple and quick would work better than making it long and drawn out; EQish.

Shrug..

I tried to get back into it during the last part of the beta after not logging in for a few months. couldn't do it.. they changed too much, slowed it down.

After 4+ years of development, you'd think Shadowbane would have been at least interesting: took me less time to figure out how bad Showbane was going to be than any other MMORPGs, Anarchy Online included.

I'm really surprised SB is still around
Now that the novelty is over, MMOGs are finding their natural niche in gaming - over the next couple years the vast majority of them will have a few thousand active players on 1 or 2 servers who will stick with the game for years and years, and that will still be hugely profitable for companies.

Even smaller games like Neocron, Meridian 59, A Tale in the Desert, and others just keep chuggin along making money.

I'm really surprised SB is still around. It's amazing how MMOGs like SB and WW2OL had incredibly horrible launches and unstable code but yet they managed to keep themselves alive - just barely.

shadowbane itself is a great game.
not geared towards the usual mmorpg trademill player, it allows huge guild battles and good pvp.

however, those two elements were (are?) also the downfall of the game; huge guild wars were unplayable laggy and caused most of the players to crash. additionally, you had to camp your or your enemys guild town hours ahead of the battle. imagine the enemy not showing up early (or at all). all the time wasted waiting doing nothing...

I've heard that these guys are missing payroll, so it must be pretty bad at Wolfpack.

Wolfpack's decision to work on this expansion pack while Shadowbane itself remains riddled with bugs is outrageous!

I have never played a game that was as poorly designed as Shadowbane and I've never heard of developers as unprofessional as those found at Wolfpack and UBI.
