C&C Generals: Zero Hour Gold

EA sends word that the Zero Hour add-on for C&C Generals has gone gold, and is slated to ship on September 22. Here's the deal:
Command & Conquer™ Generals Zero Hour has gone gold and will start to ship on Monday, September 22. The first expansion pack to one of the best-selling PC games of 2003, Command & Conquer Generals, gives players more weapons, more power, new battlefields, three new single-player campaigns, 15 new missions, and new game modes.

Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour features a new Generals Challenge mode which allows players to control any of the unique armies of nine distinctive Generals in head-to-head competition against computer-controlled Generals. Each General has a unique strength and is equipped with a special army. In three new singleplayer campaigns players will continue to take charge of three different armies, the Global Liberation Army (GLA), China, or the USA. With new weapons such as the US Spectre Gunship, GLA combat motorcycles, and Chinese Helix helicopters, players will select from a surplus of new high-tech weaponry and an assortment of new units and structures in their quest for global domination.

Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour was developed by EA LA and is being published under the EA GAMES brand. The game is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB and has a US MSRP of $29.99. The original Command & Conquer Generals game is required in order to play Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour. Additional information can be found at www.generals.ea.com or www.info.ea.com.

As much as I liked C&C, the campaign seemed way too short. I think I counted around 21 total maps, 7 per campaign. The skirmishes are hella fun though.

Well Steam clinched it for me. I have a 4600 but I don't like the FX serie... As far as HL2 they aren't showing ANY pics from mid/low end cards. Also the specs were from a 2.8GHz. So I have no idea how my mid range computer will perform in HL2. But Steam just scares me.

Well I too have Ti4600(DX8) man and I saw the benchmarks, it gets just 10fps lower then FX5900Ultra(Mixed mode - looks almost like DX8 anyway).

I wouldnt worry about cpu, doesnt seem like loads of action going from the videos(not to many actors on the screen or present).

Looking forward to this. 30 dollars is ridiculous for an expansion, but I'll pick it up when it gets down to around 15 or so. I liked the mechanics of Generals; one resource, a couple of building facilities, and lots of unit upgrades. It's a simple game, but it's really fun for someone like me, who's emphatically casual when it comes to RTS games; I just like to see shit blow up, and Generals did that very well.

10-4 on the price. Hopefully more and more people will begin waiting for these prices to drop... and just maybe they'll lower the prices by default. I won't hold my breath though. There are reasons that EA is successful, even though they're scum.

I got ripped off on the original, paid the full 49.99. Decent game, but not worth it. I won't be buying the expansion pack.

With games I always buy them to support the developers but I'm leaning towards "downloading" this one.

Thanks. Your "downloading" will help promote overpriced games.

I guess thats one way of looking at it.

Another would be don't release shitty games, with little content for 50 bucks while already planning on an expansion pack before the original hits the shelves to further rape the gaming community.

I notice that instead of patching existing games, or giving full support or anti-cheat support to any game, they will just make an expansion. It wouldn't surprise me if Zero Hour was just a bunch of stuff they were going to put in the original release, cut out, and instead of fully patching the game to play right, put together this expansion to make more money.

I bought C&C Generals and the support is absolutely horrible, rather non-existant. I refuse to buy another EA Games product if they continue this greedy "make an expansion instead of fixing or supporting current games" policy. I wouldn't be surprised if Zero Hour has a lot of bugs and eventual cheat problems. Then, EA Games will make a Generals 2 claiming to fix all those issues. It goes on and on and on.

They've done the samething with MOH:AA and BF:1942 - same exact pattern, expansion or new game vs. support, patch, and anti-cheat for current game.

That *is* another way of looking at it.

But in this case, someone only gets raped if they go out and buy the game. If you object to the price, don't buy it, and even worse for them, don't play it. All of these franchises fear obscurity and financial failure in equal measures.

If they get both, then they'll damn well shape up their act.

in the case of not buying the game because you are afraid of getting raped, grab the demo. wait a sec... the demo for this game came out WAY after it was released.
okay.. having said that:
they released the demo real late because they were busy on something else, didnt care to release one, or were afraid the demo would scare a few folks off.
if any of that is correct they just cerated a split of people who will pirate the game, and those who will bite teh bullet and buy it.
if you bite the bullet and buy it and not like it.. you feel slighted.
you can read 1million reviews.. but that still doesnt mean u will agree with the reviwers decision.
i can understand -sometimes- in the right circumstances why people pirate. there has to be a few factors in place to be a concious pirate and not just some lame-o who grabs every ISO just cuz he finally figured out how the newsgroups work.

For the most part, I agree with what you are saying. But I hope you'd agree that there are very few conscious pirates. And further to that "I'll pirate it coz it's too expensive" ain't much a moral arguement.

I've been watching the videos, and admittedly playing C&C:G, and I keep hoping that just once, instead of saying "I'm just a peasant!" the GLA workers would say "I'm just a poor boy, from a poor family!"

With full orchestral background or not?

Did anyone ever see the Father Ted where Graham Norton did that? Has to be one of the funnier moments of that show... though I suppose it's only us and the brits that see it, I doubt it made it to the states :-(

btw, play.com are selling the expansion for ST£14.99, so that's €21 or $23. Not too bad.
