Halo Status Report

With the removal of the remaining work items list on the Halo Website, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford made a forum post called Halo PC Status describing the imminence of announcements concerning the game's availability (thanks Frans and HBO). Here's the deal:
Expect an announcement about the release date of Halo PC sometime in the next 1 to 4 days.

gearboxsoftware.com will carry the announcement in the forums, on the main pages and will offer other fun materials related to the announcement.

The "Work Items" remaining ticker was removed because there are no remaining work items for the retail game.

The team is working on a number of other things including a demo and some bonus features to be released as an update on or about launch time.

We are having lots of fun at Gearbox playing "Assault" mode in Halo PC. We can't wait for you to be able to join us

Thanks for your participation in the forums and thank you for your continued excitement and anticipation of Halo's invasion of the PC.

Anyone find it ironic that Halo is finally going to be released after all this time... Near the supposed HL2 date? I can guarantee I will not buy this game.

Youre right gearbox is not owned by Gabe Newell.

They just do every halflife conversion including Counterstrike, Blue Shift, Opposing Force and the Botched 007 Game they just finished.

While not owned by Gabe they have a great interest in keeping him happy , and that probley includes Borrowing code and DX9 techniques that are being devoloped to be used on Halflife2.

Truth is this I find it Strange that the only game that had Slowed down the mighty GFGF5900 was HALO PC. Not Jediacademy not Tron2 not anything but Halo and I shudder at the thought of fooling yourself into beliving that GFFX will get its act together before HL2 ships.

I dont give two cents about HALO compared to HL2. Im still playing counterstrike with full servers to boot.

Yeah read my post didnt I say I took back a GFFX5900 card after trying it on a beta of Halo?
Mabey you missed that part but its ok even if the code isnt optimised yet it still ran WAY better on the Radeon card. and I couldnt even turn on FSAA or FA with the GF-FX card it gave me a garbeled screen when I did.
Even the Radeon cant run it smooth with FSAA on.

Im just here to stat the facts not something I heard but something I experienced firsthand.

Also "Gearbox did the conversion" Gearbox is a Gabe Newell Owned company no matter if X-box has GF3 in it or not GFFX5900 ran slow with no FSAA period.

Im not the only person who said Halo is very demanding even on a P4 2.3 gig its slow im running a AMD2000xp.
read what the other guy had to say too.

Damn! I hope the beta copy a friend brought over the other night was an old build! Cause damn, did that thing bring my normally zippy P4 2.6 and Radeon 9700 Pro to it's knees!!

I have the same specs and found the beta have terrible performance to the point of unplayability. Hopefully the demo will come out before the game so I can see if that's no longer the case.

I don't see why having HL2 coming soon prevents you from buying Halo too. I'm looking forward to play both games! ]

True, but I can wait for this one to hit $24.99 before I buy it. Maybe Co-Op will be added by then.

LOL do you take into account that there are other people in this world who havent played this game yet?
Not everyone bought a X-box just based on a game so some of us stuck to our PC's and waited.

People like you need to think about what youre saying before you type, you sound like your three years old.

Oh btw The GF FX5900 with all details turned off couldnt run this game smoothly, what makes you think a GF3Ti will do better I have no clue.

I use to be Pro Nvidia all the way till a friend of mine brought a copy of HALO PC over and I tried it on a brand new GF FX-5900 45.23 drivers and all and no FSAA no FA just SLOW performance, I took out the GF FX card i just purchased about 4 days ago then got a Radeon 9800 . Halo Runs like butter with a Radeon dont know why either but I bet theres some truth to what Gabe Newell stated.

I'm still getting it, although from the looks of things, UT2004 may be getting more online playtime. (or maybe not, I dont know since I haven't playes either).

I couldn't care less if it's old. I haven't played it before, I don't know the story and the graphics aren't so horibly dated that I become a snob who will turn down the possibility of what has been consistenly described as a great game without considering the gameplay. I also happen to know that my system (GF3Ti500) is going to struggle with Half life 2 - assuming there's nothing too broken in my rendering path, I can feel happy that I'm pretty certain to get a good gameplay experience from Halo, where I'm concerned that even the fairly decent amount of memory I have (1Gb) won't make up for the slightly older graphics card in HL2 to the point where I can still enjoy it.

Heck, I've got Tron2.0 and Jedi Academy that I'm still looking forward to.

"I have to say im impressed with this single player campaign, its challenging and well paced."

While I think most of it was fun, just wait until you get to the Library level; it's a repetitive spiral staircase that lasts WAY too long. And then, you have to do it all over again.

I don't know what possessed them to do that. It practically ruined the last half of the game for me. But all-in-all, it was a fun game.

Ive gone through some mission in the beta, and I never had a chance to play single player on Xbox. I have to say im impressed with this single player campaign, its challenging and well paced. Even if it is a few years old it still holds its own imo.

Well this is good news as there will not be 5 previews a day any more. God, the games sites have absorbed so much 'tick tock' progress on this one game I feel part of the development team. Whens the release party guys? Do we get a preview of that as well, of you all drinking too much champagne in the office and barfing on the carpet? We need to know!

It's the GF-FX's Pixel Shader 2.0 that's busted. Halo runs VERY slow, the same with the latest Tomb raider game (also PS 2.0), and this is also why HL2 runs so shitty(PS2..).

(Though Halo ran perfectly in outdoor maps. atleast 80-90 fps. It was just in the beginning, when the action got really thick, the fps jumped down to 3-4)

But it's too late for me to change cards, so I just hope these new 50,xx drivers will fix it as Nvidia has promised.

did they rewrite the AI code for the PC version? because the xbox release had predictable AI which resembled something from id.

The level design was bland as are your adversaries. But i am looking forward to the multiplay...!

I think the reason the game was so hyped for the Xbox, is because it's the only Xbox game that doesn't totally suck.

Be fair, Splinter Cell is awesome and I'm told Tony Hawk is pretty cool.

That said, Splinter Cell always was and will be much better on a PC that can actually handle the awesome lighting that the game hinges on.

Ive never played the X-Box version, but i wondered what all the hype was about.
I mean we have the best FPS here on the PC is what I always knew right?
Wrong very wrong, I must admitt to seeing why microsoft purchased Halo in the first place, after my Buddy got a beta copy of it I was curious to see how the PC version would be,
Well its the best FPS Ive ever had the chance to play.
Ive beaten GhostRecon, Raven Shield, SeriousSam2,NOLF2,Hitman2,Unreal2,And im still playing Tribes2.
Which is what Halo reminds me of except with a great single player game, and the comments of the AI is the best as well is the AI overall.
I think this game has some of the best AI ive seen yet, the way the enemys act is very convincing.
Who cares if its not HL2 with a New coat of paint , long as its a good game that hasnt been done to death im there man ya see.
I could care less about graphics but more about inovation and great gameplay.
Any how after the graphic appeal wears off your stuck with mostley shabby games these days with SCRIPTED AI which sucks btw.
Halo has what seems like Non scripted AI to a degree, notice i said seems like cause all AI is scripted to a degree, its just how good they are at comming up with the varibles and options in a given code that blurs the reality of AI into thinking your playing aginst real people.

Oh btw GF-FX performs terrible with HALO PC so much so that i returned my GF-FX for a Radeon 9800 pro.

Oh My System Specs are AMD 2000XP-1gig 1600DDR-Radeon9800 128meg version.

No Slowdown what so ever even when the screen is filled with 16 enemys.

You guys act like it's the oldest game ever. Come on.

Have you people even PLAYEd Halo? It's one of the best party games around... this game is just begging for lan parties.

Before I get flamed to a crisp... no, I'm not an Xbox fanboy... I personally find most of the Xbox-exclusive games a bunch of crap. But Halo is an excellent game, even if it is "old". Not to mention the new modes, new maps, new weapons, updated graphics, and so on.

Give it a shot before shitting all over it in the forums, please. It really doesn't increase your maturity level any.
