Out of the Blue

I've been helping my neighbor's sister treat his cat for various ailments while my neighbor is on vacation. These treatments include administering a subcutaneous dose of saline every other day. The questionable joy of sticking an unhappy cat with a needle has fallen on me since this is something I have experience with, having provided the same treatment for my own cat when he fell ill years ago. Of course, as immortalized in the Seinfeld where Morty goes to work for Elaine at J. Peterman's, the elderly often like to get an early start, and today's call came at the crack of dawn, so that cat managed to get her full serving of saline before I had even a portion of my serving of coffee.

I had a cat who was diabetic the last few years of her life. She got her insulin shot every morning while she ate breakfast.

Why does a cat need a saline IV

Well, IV was the wrong thing to say, since it's not into the blood stream -- it's under the skin. It is to provide fluids... in this cat's case it's for dehydration, in my cat's case it was kidney failure.

How do you get a cat to sit still for it?

I had a cat about 10 years ago and was moving to a city 3 hours away. I got a cardboard pet carrier and some drugs from the vet. 30 minutes down the road he woke up from his drug stupor and started chewing his way out of the box. The rest of the trip was not pleasant for either of us.

Your mistake was boxing them up! I drove 800 miles in a Ryder truck with 9 cats running around. I had a small door from the cab to the back and in the back I had a couch, a litter box, food, water, scratching post, and toys. At first they were wiggin out but after a couple of hours they were taking turns sitting on the dash, paws forward, ears back...easy rider!

An old lady hired a friend and I to delete some of her cat population. I think she had well over 50 at her house out in the country. Some of them were pretty sick too. So we killed a total of 35 over the course of a few weeks. She only payed us like 20 bucks or something but it was well worth it, and I would have done it for free. One cat who must have deserved to live, dodged three shells from a 16 gauge shotgun and 15 from my semi-auto 22. Well, either he dodged them or we missed. Many of the cats did not go easily as they were quite wild, but they still came to hang around the house because she fed them (go figure.)

My mothers cat is having kidney failure. She doesn't have what it takes to give the thing a needle everyday though. Neither would I. She gives it some type of pill in its food. This thing is completely falling apart. It's going deaf and blind. It's a long haired cat, he can't groom himself so his hair is completely matted all over. She tried to cut some of it and cut the cat so she won't do it anymore. He stinks too, because he can't groom. He leaves blobs of hair wherever he lies. I always look at his recent bedding area and say: "Ma, your cat blew up again." His litter pan is in her basement. He will trek down there and see the pan in front of him and just let loose. Sometime on the wall, or on the floor. Can't figure that one out because sometimes he actually goes in the pan, maybe he's in oo much pain, I dunno. Sometimes he just goes at the bottom of the steps. He also goes nuts when anyone is in the kitchen. He's the loudest fucker I ever heard. He constanly walks in front of your path so you are forced to kick him. When you sit at the table to eat, he plops down right in front of your feet, so when you need to get up, you get to kick him in the face. I think he's turned masochistic(sp). I feel sorry for the state he's in, but after house sitting for a bit, I really hate that thing.

but it was well worth it, and I would have done it for free
What the fuck? How'd you like it if I came over to your house and "deleted" you? For free. I mean you could have just kicked the animals out.

I do not believe you, I just think you are trying to get a response.
But, if it is true

GOD DAMN does your aim suck!
Maybe you should pawn the guns, and find some fragmentation grenades. Modern day fragmentation grenades have a 99%+ chance of killing anything with-in 5 meters of it.
That is a 15 foot radius, or a 30 foot diameter. If you can not get a cat with that, I suggest you get your vision checked, and if that checks out ok. You should then head down to the disabilities office and file to be legally classified as a retard.

Ughh please, I have nothing against cats, nor did I wish to upset anyone. If you think its wrong to eliminate some cats who have over populated an area due to human stupidity then please, come back to reality. I enjoyed it from the perspective of a hunter, not a sicko who likes seeing things suffer.

ThePDW, have you ever had a barrel full of puppies? When you take a shotgun and bast away...you can't even buy an experience like that. Priceless.

I can see the old ladies plight, she probably started feeding a few and it ust grew and grew. I'm sure SPCA, if called, would have them killed. But, the cander when you speak of killing the animals makes you a sick person.

Don't worry PDW, I understand what you're saying. It's certainly not pretty, but someone has to cull animal populations sometimes.
It's a shame that people have become so "citified" over the last century or two they forget those things.
Personally, I think it's essential to learn to hunt and stay in touch with nature in that respect. It certainly gives one a better sense of perspective.
Let's not talk about deer hunting here or they'll be calling us Bambi killers next.

Okay ThePDW. You have to control the population the of animals and kill sick animals, but you just came across as a jerk. I've been hunting as well and shot animals before, so i'm not someone who cried when they saw Bambi, but as many people have cats as pets and treat them as part of the family you were asking for grief...

Hunters have nothing to do with nature. I respect hunting for the fact that it controls overpopulation. But, don't spit in my face with that nature bullshit. When you've broken the deer's neck with your teeth, come back.
