Homeworld 2 Demo Tomorrow

Homeworld 2 Demo Coming Soon is the press release announcing the plan to release the demo of Relic's now-gold space-based RTS sequel tomorrow. Here's the word:
Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) announced today that, in conjunction with Relic Entertainment, it will release a sneak-peak to Homeworld(r)2, the sequel to 1999's award-winning, space-based real-time strategy game, tomorrow.

The demo will include looks at both the single- and multi-player campaigns of Homeworld 2, including the tutorial mission, two single-player missions, and two multiplayer missions, which will be playable over both LAN and the GameSpy network.

"We recognize that our community's support of Homeworld 2 is both incredibly valuable and vital to the success of this game," said Chris Mahnken, producer of Homeworld 2. "The community has been requesting a demo of the game for many months now, and we are proud to be able to deliver it to them."

The 141 MB Homeworld 2 demo will be released via the VU Games website tomorrow. The company will also make the demo available to all press and community sites that wish to host it.

Interesting to note that Marweas does not do PR for Sierra... just as well judging by his posts...

That shitty condescending attitude of yours is why support for anything these days just plain sucks. You feel you have better things to do than your job.

Oh my God you are soooo dumb. THIS is the problem. You think my job is to sit there and listen to some idiot (like youself) rant like a fool? Are you kidding me? And that accomplishes what now? Someone has a rational question posed in a rational manner will get excellent service. Idiots (like yourself) ranting like morons (like yourself) will get NOTHING. When they learn to BEHAVE like CIVILIZED people they will be treated as such.

LEARN THIS NOW: YOU ARE ENTITLED TO NOTHING!!! NOT ONE THING!!! Respect is a 2 way street.

Babysitting is NOT my job. My job is helping professionals do their work, not listening to morons rant.

You are paid to deal with people who don't have a clue and are fustrated at that particular time.

True. This is NOT license to be an asshole, PERIOD.

See, people who know what they are doing wouldn't waste their time talking to some ass on the phone who is probably getting his answers from a book or PC on his desk...

Most people are not pleasant when fustrated

Learn to control your emotions, its part of what seperates the rest of us from monkeys...

and they certainly don't need to speak to a prick

Neither do I. Neither does anyone else. So, prick can either shape up and act like a HUMAN talking to another HUMAN or sit there and get no help. Or call one of you two pussies

who's gonna piss them off even more because they feel like the customers are beneath them. It IS your fucking job and anything less is UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Easy, Beavis...have your mommy cut back on the Mellow Yellows in your lunchbox. Who said the customer was beneath them? Show me, please. I said ranting assholes get no attention, calm civilized people get excellent service (they should, they pay dearly for it). Can you get that into that tiny space between your ears?

It's a crappy job, but it's a fucking job! Do it right or fucking quit

A crappy job? Not mine, I have a great job...I just dont take shit from assholes. I dont see that as bad...Also, I do an EXCELLENT job. My customers arent clueless fools. Clueless fools dont last long with me. Try to understand the use of clueless here. Clueless is not the non-technical folks inability to understand technical things. Seeking the advice of qualified folks and LISTENING to it are admirable qualities

do something you're qualified for like being a mascot for some AAA baseball team.

I am SO unqualified for that. First, I HATE baseball, I think watching paint dry is more interesting. Second, those mascot guys are WAY more athletic than I want to be on any job (except for maybe porn star).

Prick.

Heh, you really showed me, huh guy!!! Thumbs up to you, buddy! Errrr!!! Moron.

And another thing... Your PC specs are kinda...blah...

I care. If you think I post my specs to impress then you are EASILY impressed and I would hate to think what kind of crap PC you are on...though I would highly suggest this rig to anyone looking for a good value performer with some expandibility and upgradibility.

Uhhh Ya, did a little research. I've seen worse. Marweas the "board guy" and Alex the PR and still one and the same. Was he wrong? Do you need to ask? This is about defending points of view at this point there johnny come lately. If you'd read all the other threads you know that by now. Yes he was wrong, and as my very first post said, it was funny as hell to watch somebody lose control like that. Remember what we all used to do to substitute teachers at one time? Bottom line is he shouldn't have done it regardless and everybody loves to laugh and point at a fuck up. That's all, frankly I thought it would have died long before now. And you if can't stand people talking shit about you or your "Mom", better grow a thicker skin in today's world.

While the "never bite the hand that feeds you" philosophy applies to Marweas' comment to a degree, if me and all of my buddies talked trash about your mom, and had no idea what they were talking about, you wouldn't appreciate it. He posted his comments NOT as a "PR Comment", but as a "Marweas" comment. I saw so many people posting on the forum saying "I never said anything bad about Eierra, and now I'm personally offended". Well, you know what??? HE WAS NOT TALKING TO YOU, so quit whining.

From a professional perspective, perhaps it wasn't the brightest thing to do -- but do I blame him? No, I think those forumites needed a little wake up call -- Sierra (and Relic, for that matter) is made of people -- and these people DO read forums, DO listen to what their fans have to say, and DO get offended when people talk trash about them when they have no idea how off-base the comments are.

And sometimes, emotions flare...

So if gamers think it's free territory to flame the companies that publish the games they want to play just because "the box art sucks" or "You didn't release a public external beta test", expect to hear 'feedback' about it.

I personally read back a bit before Marweas' comment to see what that thread was all about -- and I think I would have done the same thing... It was evident they had turned their back on Sierra --- so I think it's just as right that one of her son's didn't like the way they were treating his mom, so he packed up his toys and went home.

Yes, THE CUSTOMERS! THAT'S whats wrong with customer service! You are finally getting it!

BTW "Customer service" you are there to service the customer just to clarify things. When you take this job, you give up you right to tell people off in a work capacity. Want to treat people like that? Then eat shit long enough to become a manager, then you can take it out on the underlings NOT the idiots we all call customers.

Yes that may be true I've never denied that they're sub-human morons most of the time but, you never let them know that YOU know that. If the above is the way you'll treat customers, then prepare to spend a significant portion of your life looking for employment. My whole career in one place? I can't be THAT wrong.

Actually, your philosophy is exactly whats wrong with the customer these days!

How many times have you seen some yo-yo post in a private forum that they have a right to say what they want there-WHEN THEY DONT!

So what do they want to do? CALL THEIR LAWYER, LIKE EVERY GOOD AMERICAN!!! Woohoo!!!

That's why I'm saying publishers shouldn't be in charge of PR. They have no passion or connection the actual product. The developer does, he/she puts emotion, spirit, and skill into the product. The developer cares about not necessarily the end result - profit - but actually the artistic value and aesthetic quality of the final product - something that only the user/player can judge. The publisher sees a profit and considers that a win scenario - whereas the developer may see all the criticism or lack of support and think the product is a disgrace. Let the developers take over and control the publisher, it's the only answer to the problems of quality and poor support. It's all upside down right. Until developers start making all the final decisions in every respect of the game, we will continue to see a decline in quality, support, and PR. As it is now, a customer is a mere tool for profit for the publisher, but for the developer the customer is what the game is all about.

Me neither. I just hang up on them. When they get a clue, IF they get a clue, they can call me. If not, they can take their pain-in-the-assness to some other poor soul."

Unfortunatly in the world that the rest of us apparently live in, most of us can't afford to let a difficult client that's willing to spend hundred's of thousands if not millions of dollars, take thier business elsewhere because thet're a pain in the ass to deal with.
Admittadly, my thinking is old school, i was trained old school by a company that's been around for 50 years! If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If you're in customer service and that's your philosophy, then you've just described everything that's WRONG with customer service these days.

Hey Craw, why do you assume that all the forum members are assholes? From what I've seen of the Relicnews forums (not much), they're pretty self-controlled and reasonable. Again, as I've said, you shouldn't tell the community they are incosequential, especially when these are your die-hard fans. Their dedication to the game and the community should mean something, and not simply be blown off with "Who cares about you, we've got plently of other customers". It fosters a sense of community, which is always good for the game. Look at the difference mods make these days. Being nice to and supportive of your community makes them want to work on mods for your game and fosters customer loyalty.

I'm speaking from experience. I'm a member of what left of the Freespace 2 community, and despite the fact that Volition has (through no fault of their own) abandoned the game, we're still very much working on mods, campaigns and such. The game isn't selling very much, if anything, and the tech-support and mod support is virtually non-existant (it is non-existant on the latter count, and the former isn't really an issue). And yet, were Freespace 3 to be announced tommorow, we'de all be jumping for joy, and would dedicate ourselves to spreading the good word. Hell, I'm sure most of the modders would work for free on content for the game if asked to. Thats what loyalty is all about. You don't get that by telling your communtiy that they're not important.
