Half-Life 2 Movies & More Date Data

A pair of ShakyCam™ "technical" movies on Half-Life 2 have been released, one showing off the Alyx character from the game and the other demonstrating some what can be done in the editor with walls. The Alyx movie is 54 MB, available on FilePlanet (registration required), FileFront, GameCenter.cz, and Worthplaying, while the Walls movie is 55 MB, available on FilePlanet (registration required), FileFront, GameCenter.cz, and Worthplaying. Also, in the ongoing marketing fiasco/publicity boon (depending on your perspective) regarding the Half-Life 2 release date, Eurogamer has a report up from ECTS quoting Valve's Greg Coomer as saying: "it'll be tight, but Half-Life 2 is still on for a September 30th ship."

I've heard it from a source at a reputable hardware site that Valve backed off the September 30th ship date to make sure it was done right.

How'd you get JK:JA 3 weeks before it's in stores?
Or do you mean the beta, which doesn't count. The frozen-in-time tauntauns and swoop glitches alone are pissing me off. I want the fully operational version!!!

Maybe this changed along the way and I missed it, but I distinctly remember Valve saying there was no plans for a "demo" at all. Half Life 1 didnt have a public demo either. Half Life "Day One" was released to a few review publishers, but was never distributed pubically.

Anyone know if there is an official statement on the contrary?

No matter how much time they spend, there will be a few bugs they couldn't think of.

So go ahead, release the game on the 30th like planned, and then expect a patch next week.

Then re-gold the game with the newest patch, so new boxes have the update.

I guess we'll know for sure when we see the gone gold announcement here.

Anyone see the movies yet? Just wondering if it's worth messing around with trying to download em from these sites.

I'm mildly worried here...I've got one of those 9500's that you can mod to a 9700 thru the wizzard mod, and the site that hosted it is no longer available.

anyone know where I can get new ones? did he get shut down by ATI? I'm mostly worried cause I'm *sure* that HL2 will require that I have the 3.6 or later drivers, and I don't have the wizzard mod for em. yeah, I could live with running at half my card's capability, but who the hell wants to do that?

http://www.omegacorner.com/

Omega drivers are the official ATi drivers with some tweaks and an option to use the softmod for your 9500. No dicking around with files, etc. An option screen will pop up when the installation is running and it will ask which drivers you want installed, normal or hacked. Thats it.

This site has more info on doing the mod manually though, for the life of me, can't understand why anyone would want to with the above drivers available.

http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/

Finally, the absolute best place for info on your Radeon is the Rage3D forums. Very active community that should be able to quickly aswer any question you have about all things ATi:

good luck! hope this helped.

I wouldn't even think about doing a hard mod until you determine that your card will work without artifacts. It would suck to have to go through moving the resistor twice.

"I've got one of those 9500's that you can mod to a 9700 thru the wizzard mod"

you might want to look into hard-moding it, after that you will have no worries.

I think Greg Croomer seems like the more logical employee at Valve at the moment. Gabe has been the one saying no comment and I also believe he is going nut-job insane. I mean have you read this interview? http://hl2.gamingsource.co.uk/?content=interviews? Gabe Newell: Because we are teasing you.
Yes, I took that out of context, but it could be true I tells ya.

While we are showing off with our rigs:

When you put it that way...I'm pretty sure it will run on my P4 3,0 (clocked to 3,5) Ghz, GF FX5900 Ultra 256 (clocked to 511/932)...yadda yadda, too

I just want it to bee stable. And there are alot of games comming out right now. Just got Tron2, JK:JA and Republic today, and Homeworld 2 and Savage are Gold, so I can wait a little while longer

I know, doesnt says much, but if Valve "wont comment" and says "it is gonna be tight" I think I rather wait an extra month as Draft said.

Hell no. Send it out! Put it to gold. Valve knows the game works & it will definately work with an Intel 3.0 ATI pro256 9800. SEND IT! If there are problems, patch them later. I want the game. SEND IT!

The game is only a month away, so no point in asking for a demo now as there wouldn't be enough time.

I'm hoping there will be at least some good previews on gaming sites with the near finished version soon, like in at the most 20 days, so we can start getting impressions about the gameplay compared to the videos.

Hey, I'm glad if I'm wrong, but I'm so sure I saw just that quote....

Here:http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=43405

"Can you finally confirm that the release date will be 9/30 to put an end to all the rumors of the last few days?

I remember reading somewhere that they were planning on releasing some sort of standalone benchmark/test type proggie prior to release

I recall that as well. Not a demo tho...
