Ships Ahoy: Republic: The Revolution

Eidos sends along news that Republic: The Revolution is shipping to stores in North America tomorrow, a bit in advance of the recently revealed scheduled in-store date of August 29 (story). In other shipping related news, the countdown to release on the official TRON 2.0 Website is now down to 5½ hours, putting its release at midnight tonight (which is also when Soul Calibur II is slated to become available).

Sort of took the wind out of Republic's sails in here, eh?

Anyway, thanks for all the good info on Tron, you guys. Man. Between rent, da bills, food, and all the killer games hitting the shelves, I'm going to be broke next month!!

Gonna go sell a pint or two of blood and pick me up a copy of Tron today, though

I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now, even though you broke my heart and killed me.

Quick to post? He replied 11 minutes after you posted. You, however, posted 4 minutes after XtG did. Sounds like your life is sitting in front of daddy's computer hitting refresh.

Oh shit, I think I've just been trolled.

Who am i? Im the guy who told you to type 'republic' in the search engine on blues instead of asking about it on the forum.

As for your intelligence im guessing your pretty stupid if you cant grasp the irony in asking me 'how the fuck you know im intelligent or not' and then proceding to tell me all about 'the real world'.

Doing an awful lot of typing for someone with so little time. I would think one with such a m4d social life and intelligence such as your self would have been smart enough to use the search feature on Blues, guess not.

I only took the time because A) I am bored and I my new GFX card hasnt arrived yet, and therefore cant play that many games (right now I have in a replacement tnt 1. TNT 1 ffs!), and B) I find it amusing to make fun of sophmorific tools like you.

and also you took me serious which is seriously way beyoned the point of that post. Basically it was one sarcastic piece of fine posting that you got caught up in. You found it in your heart to care enough to try to tell me right.

If you think that your post was filled with sarcasm... then you seriously need to read more. Or just look it up. www.dictionary.com There you go.

And did you say "one sarcastic piece of FINE posting" ? Fine posting? How was that FINE posting when it was filled with insults a middle school kid would use. How in God's name is that "fine posting"?

And I do not believe you are a troll, I just think you get pissed off too easily. You have awful thin skin for a person on the internet.

if the computers are so smart and all why would they take an inferior humanoid form

You could look at it another way though. They might not actually HAVE a human form, this is just how Jet visualizes the other programs he comes across.

Halsy, I don't think it has an editor, at least I didn't see one. I don't think Monolith ever gives out stuff like that for Lith?
I can understand your reluctance on spending 50 dollars for 12 hours, but I will say that of all the 12 hour games there are out there, this is without the doubt the finest one.

Dan, make sure you're fully loaded on energy and health, crouch down to the right of the guy you've told to get that email fragment, zoom in one level, then pick the seekers off as soon as they appear. The seeker all the way at the back will hit you a few times, but ignore him for now, since he's the hardest shot. Hit the other four first, then take your time in hitting the last one.
Whatever you do, DO NOT try to get more health or energy while you haven't killed those five seekers yet, because the damage you take just isn't worth it. If you didn't kill all five seekers without getting energy, just reload.

As for the jumping, I agree, I tried to edit that into my original post, but the board seems to hate editing for some reason. While most of the jumping sections are easy and / or optional, there are two jumping sections that are obligatory and will have you tearing your hair out. If the level designer of the TANK section in the old mainframe gets what I wished upon him while trying to get past that, I doubt there is much beyond ashes left of him...

Just go to the red diveder and lean to either side and shoot them with your zoomed LOL gun, the AI is all frigged up in that game, it has REALLY weird triggers. If you stay to one side sometimes they won't get you. And they are "finders" :P.
I have to admit first when I saw Lichtech engine was going to be used I kinda thought the game was goning to be total shit, but when I got to playing it I was all like "Damn this IS fun!". So I'm quite happy with the game.
I'm one of those that hate the lightcycles part, but then there'll be one in everycrowd.
My big question with Tron is, if the computers are so smart and all why would they take an inferior humanoid form?? I mean they could be any other physical form. I guess the answer is that it was cheaper back in the 70's or early 80's whenever the hell that Tron shit was made to stick some guys in lame suits instead of thinking up some real original sci-fi thing.
OH ALSO I REALLY have a new respect for my PC now with all those fucking jumping puzzles it has to do just to get a new subroutine, or to get that extra block of memory.
Anyway over all I think the game is pretty good so far, 7.5/10.

Good review, thanks Creston. I was rather impressed with demo, but I have a hard time rationalizing a 50 dollar purchase for 12 hours of play time.
With FPS's I generally expect at least 20 hours worth of campaign time (double that for RPG's). I'll probably just wait for a used copy or till it comes down in price a bit.
BTW does the game come with an editor? If it does, that would definitely cause me to reconsider.

Is absolutely the finest single player experience in a first person shooter EVER. I got it and played through straight in 12 hours, my wife actually had to force me to stop for 15 minutes so I could eat something.

While 12 hours may indicate that it's short, I felt it was a good length. I'm one of the "it can never be too long" school of thinking, as I'm always a bit disheartened when I complete a game (I often replay, but the magic just isn't there when you play a game for the 2nd - 11th time), but the story makes good sense, no corners are skipped, and there is an abundance of levels and missions to complete. You won't feel cheated on this game, as you might have on some others.

The whole downloading / interface thing is great, as is the levelling up process, although I think that some of your abilities simply aren't as useful as the rest (weapon efficiency, for example, is pretty much a waste to put build points in). It's fun to watch yourself become stronger and able to dispatch your enemies more easily. There is an abundance of programs you can load, and you can definitely make a few different "builds" of yourself, either going solo disc, specialized disc, weapons, or stealth.

Graphically the game is stupendous. Funny enough, when you first start the game, the Glow isn't really apparent, and I found myself browsing through some previews to see if maybe the game had shifted to needing a DX9 card for the Glow to work properly, but that lasted for exactly one level. Once you see the red sectors, you'll DEFINITELY notice just how awesome that glow is.

Sound wise it's great too, and the voice acting is top notch.

The light cycles are cool, well implemented in the single player game (it's not all just games, sometimes you'll have to traverse a lightcycle grid just to get to another section, and trust me, you haven't driven a lightcycle until TANKS start shooting at you ), and the tournament light cycle vs bots is pretty tricky.

Shit, what more can I say, this game is the BEST first person shooter since Deus Ex, and I'd put it in my top 5 of best games all time. Absolutely awesome. Half Life 2 better be one fantastic piece of software if it wants to claim the "best FPS" crown, because Tron 2.0 is firmly at the top right now.

To summarize : GO GET IT!
