Homeworld 2 Gold

Homeworld 2 Goes Gold is the press release from Vivendi Universal Games announcing that Homeworld 2 is gold, and that the space-based RTS sequel is expected to ship to stores in North America on September 16. Here's the deal:
Homeworld 2, the sequel to one of 1999's highly acclaimed RTS games, returns players to the helm of the most powerful space armada in the universe as they battle to keep their home. The highly-anticipated follow up title includes multiplayer competition for up to five other players, in addition to an engrossing single player saga, and features startling space effects like dust gas clouds, wispy nebulae, and ghostly derelict hulks of space ships rendered with spectacular Hollywood-style special effects.

"Homeworld 2 takes our commitment to quality to the next level, by including a number of visual improvements, as well as refinements to the gameplay and user-interface," said Dan Irish, Executive Producer of Homeworld 2. "We're excited to deliver the next chapter in the Homeworld saga, and are looking forward to seeing the fans' reactions to our improvements of the series."

To guarantee a copy of Homeworld 2 on release day, gamers can reserve a copy through their local retail store or online site. Customers who reserve a copy at Best Buy, GameStop, Amazon.com, Musicland and CompUSA will receive a bonus Homeworld 2 CD with never before seen concept art, trailer, poster, and much more, while supplies last.

Wow, two Sierra classics (HL and HW) releasing updated versions in the same month!

Now if only Swat 4 had made it's fall release date, Sierra would've pulled off the trifecta.

I totally agree, and have to add, that i loved it, that in the original homeworld, you never actually saw any humans if i remember right. I think it was fun guessing how they actually looked, with the only hint being the design of their vehicles hinting that they where more or less humanoid.
This new Caran Sjet artwork simply sucks....... bad....

Whoever thought it would be a good idea to have a flaming orange box with a purple dude who had plastic beads in his hair should be shot.

Quality

Hmmm Homeworld 2. I never really got into the first one, not sure why. Perhaps it was because a buddy of mine said that later on in the game, the AI basically started cheating with "ship capture corvettes" that made me hesitant to advance to those levels, maybe it was because it was just too big and too empty, or the rather awkward controls (to be gentle), but it just never really got me going.

I'd definitely give this a look though, if it weren't for the fact that I just got Tron 2, Jedi Academy is coming out the next day and Half Life 2 is due a scant two weeks later.

So there, developers, you just cost yourselves a sale by your idiotic determination to release your game when everybody else does, too.

Best gaming news in what feels like 2 or 3 centuries. I'd rather have Homeworld 2 than a boxed set of Half-Life 2 & 3.

"Hope Homeworld 2 manages to sell decently, with box art as horrible as whats one the website I can't imagine it appealing to the "casual gamer". Just look at Planescape: Torment for an example of bad box art killing game sales. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to have a flaming orange box with a purple dude who had plastic beads in his hair should be shot."

When I saw the box art for HW2 I thought the exact same thing.

Won't keep me from buying it, though.

I was suprised to see it go gold today, too. Thought it'd be around DX2 so I'd need that much more money.

Hmmm, Commandos 3, Half Life 2, and Doom 3 next year is all I'm waiting for, although I am a sucker for ragdoll physics in games which means possibly Farcry and Stalker as well

I never played HW when it came out. But I found it in a bargain bin last month for $9.99. It was a blast! I'm just now finishing up HW:Catalclysm.

I can't wait:)

It's better IMO... doesn't have that "wow this is a totally new kind of game!" feel that HW did... but then it's hard to beat the new kinda feeling that Homeworld brought to the table...

"It still doesnt look anywhere as good as Homeworld 1 did when it was released."

Then you really need to actually take a look at the game. Trust me, HW2 looks a lot better than HW1 did.

I think you missunderstood his point. What I believe he is trying to say is: when HW1 came out, the graphics were groundbreaking. Today, HW2's graphics need to be all the more impressive just to keep up with the pack.

Hope I didn't put words in the dude's mouth, but that's how I read his post.

I got to beta test the original homeworld, was very cool, and some of the ships really added to tactics.
I think I'll pickup HW2

Homeworld easily ranks on my top ten games of all time when it comes to SP just because it was done SO well, the book was so good, and the music was so perfect. I hope this one lives up to even being as good as HW1 but with something new to do.
