The latest Half-Life 2 movie has been released via the Steam broadband delivery system. The "Barricade" video is a 123 MB download, once again in Bink format. Mirrors are being provided by 3D Gamers, FileFront, FileRush (torrent), FileShack (registration required), IGN, and Worthplaying.

It's not just you, other people have had the same problem. Download Bink Player from www.radgametools.com and then use it's Advanced Play to play your movies. It allows you to pre-cache and change the renderer stuff. If you check pre-cache and select "DirectDraw to primary surface" things will be very smooth. My 900 plays them fine then.
