Half-Life 2 Q&A - Delay Follow-up

Videogames Italian Center's Half-Life 2 Q&A is the English version of their Q&A with Valve's Gabe Newell, also available in the site's native Italian. The conversation includes details about the upcoming game, an effort at tricking him out of a Half-Life 3 announcement, and the following, which makes it clear that previous attempts at determining whether the game is delayed or not have been for naught:
Can you finally confirm that the release date will be 9/30 to put an end to all the rumors of the last few days?

I know there are many of you that are by now a bit tired of all the minusha of the media being rather dodgy of the topic. I also know that most of you are still skeptical about the release. But in all fairness to common coder knowledge I call upon the more logical of you to remeber this. The longer it is delayed....the better it will be. And of course, remember why you are here. Not because of the endless yammering on the topic itself, but because we all share a common interest. The prophecy will be fulfilled soon. And we will prevail.

It ends tonight...

Awww, screw it. For every day the game is delayed past Sept 30th, is how long I'll wait to buy it after the release date.

Just bought 5 N64 used games from EB. Whooo Hooo. An entire system is only $30, and it works, they sell them at the stores, and then you can find all the games online. That will keep me busy while waiting.

i think the no comment thing means they're aiming for the original date but some things have gone wrong (cs:cz, steam) and they arent sure if they'll make it

I'm starting to get a sore head thinking about HL2. I mean, for a game that's so close to release, there really is sod all information on it. I mean, "we're not talking about multiplayer at the moment"???? Errrrr, why not? Isn't it done, at all???? There really isn't much to talk or think about anymore except "when is it coming out" and that is just giving me a headache. I think Valve is doing their best not to hype it, but they've let themselves get sucked in a bit by the fans and the media. ID are definitely better at controlling the flow of information...although Carmack definitely showed Doom3 off too early (3 yrs ago), I doubt there will be much hype b4 the release. When q3 came out, all I remember is goin to the shop and goin..."holy crap...it's out, wasn't expecting that."
At least Halo will be coming out, and at least we already know that the multiplayer will be good in that, casue really, if HL2's mp isn't any good, we're just gonna finish the single player in 3 days, then go back to sof/wolf/BF1942 or counter-suck.
Too much already...it's all too much.

That would give us a little more time to spend with friends/family before the game comes out and takes over our lives (which it will, because it's gonna be that cool of a game).

Yeah, it's gonna be a chilly Xmas...

Message to the media: leave Valve alone so they can finish making a great game.

Message to Valve: yes, we know HL2 is going to be released soon. Yes, we know it exists. So stop talking to the media and finish development, please.

I swear... people were complaning about DOOM3 hype, but this is getting ridiculous.

I think that this is the reason id is keeping quiet on Doom 3. Although I would imagine there would be a beta test any time soon- unless one is going on already (for D3 that is)

Indeed, Hump, and anyone thinking that publishers even have enough time to create and maintain a conspiracy is an idiot. As much as I hate their 'Big Business' attitudes and corporate political correctness, I'm pretty sure they can't afford to jerk everyone around and laugh at the results. Use your head (the one top of your shoulders - knock, knock, is there any common sense in there?), people...

Unfortunately, no, they are not very accurate. Not even semi-accurate.

nitwirt clerks notwithstanding, I've found that the EB website does an excellent job of trying to keep the release dates as current as possible. Like any other source they get their info from the publishers and are at their mercy. if the publishers say date "X" and it turns out to be revised later by said publisher then thats the fault of the publisher, not EB. I don't think they have some evil conspiracy to set ship dates only to change them at the last minute just to get a laugh.

"Gabe, thanks again for your availability, I'm really looking forward to playing Half Life 2. I think I'll pitch my tent in front of the store the night before the release date :)"

I'm pitching a tent now just thinking about playing HL2.

And KOTOR is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I just want Half Life 2 to be DONE when it comes out. Just watched a HL2 video clip yesterday in CompUSA (playing on a Mac, no less) and it looked AWESOME. It will probably be the best FPS of all time when it comes out. I'd hate to see that ruined by poor quality control. Games like this are unbelievably complex to program, and not even Einstein could figure out in advance how long it will take to iron out all the wrinkles. So why pace the floor over this game? Let 'em finish it. Go do something else. It'll be done soon enough.

By the way, what's KOTOR (excuse my ignorance)?

There IS NO reliable source of release dates out there, because most game design companies won't tell ANYONE, besides even the companies themselves don't really know when the product will truly be ready for release.

You know, it's ironic how gamers press companies hard to give a solid release date on a popular game, yet they bitch loudly when the game comes out and it still has bugs. As they say, "you can't have your cake and eat it too". There's only two choices: release a game when it's truly done, or push it out the door on a certain date no matter what. Which do you really want?
