English XIII Demo

The English-language single player demo for XIII is now available, offering a sample of Ubi Soft's upcoming cel-shaded Unreal-engine shooter, a bit earlier than the "middle of August" that was recently predicted (story). The demo offers two levels for an 80 MB download, which is available from 3D Gamers, FileFront, FileShack (registration required), GameCenter, Gamer's Hell, and Loadedinc (registration required). Update: Some of these links were to a passworded version of the demo, so some of these mirrors are unavailable while this is being sorted out.

I thought it was fun until I tried messing with the options. When I jumped the res up to 1024x768 I ran into the problems Dan is talking about. Things got worse when I tried to reset everything to default... the textures became dark and blurry, and the mouse control problems didn't go away either.

I noticed it's coming out for consoles too... after it's released I'll give it a shot on my Xbox, but I won't bother with the PC version if the same problems are there.

yeah my mouse sensitivity is ridiculously high even though i lowered the slider all the way left... making the game unplayable. it looks neat though. hope they put out a patch.

well the music is fine.. i kinda liked it.. what i didn't like is how awful the game looked... i upped the res to 1024x768 and it was a bit sluggish, i turned it down to 800x600 and now it's blurry... also i can't really play because the mouse sensitivity is insanely sensitive and it doesn't make a difference when i turn it down.. i have an athlon xp 1600+ with a ti4200 128MB... its nowhere near top of the line but it shouldn't be playing how it is

does anyone wonder why a lifeguard wearing nothing but a bikini would be carrying throwing knives?

Alright, after playing through it a second time and having it not crash on me at all, I'm assuming the first one was an isolated incident. As for the game itself, it's not too shabby. As others have said, the music needs a bit of work (even on my Audigy 2 I had lots of crackling and pops and stuff), and the gameplay is pretty much average, but it does have quite a bit of style. Even after raising the graphics options up quite a bit, it still ran fairly well, which is a good sign.

I'd say this would be a purchase if it got decent reviews and I could find it on sale.

THe AI still isn't there, the sound crackeled and pooped sometimes on my SBlive! and so anyway overall this demo is meh, at least it uninstalled fast :). I hope the full version has all these bugs worked out!

Well I played through each of the levels a couple times, and so far I can say this game has some good style in it. The music tracks are excellent, the graphics actually look good and animations are real smooth.

I think I might have to pick this one up.

WOW!!!
Is this game perfect? NO!
Is the music annoying, and I can not seem to find away to turn it off, yes!

But it is a really really fun game!
And I mean come on, who could not like "pow" "bang" "blang "NOOOOO" and others come up over the action like the original batman tv series!

From the demo, this is a pretty kick ass game, and am goning to pick it up for sure! Lots of fun stuff....check it out!

So Fileplanet got it dead last? What does that matter if the servers that got it first run slow? Money wasted? Not for me, I was tired of wasting time searching.

Sure, I am not denying that you can get it fast from other free servers and some at a decent rate. I used to find files there myself, my point was simply I didn't have to search around looking for the best server, the best speed, problems with it being password protected or not, etc, etc.

Since I don't want to get this thread off on a huge tangent that always occurs with mention of Fileplanet, I will stop here. Although it is amazing how many people bitch about Fileplanet especially when they are the only ones with a particular demo. Going to go play some more.

Happy searching.

Sounds as if your monitor doesn't support the resolution the game's trying to run in, but I haven't tried the demo yet, so I can't say for sure. I'm sure someone knows how to set the resolution from outside the game. Try checking the game's .ini's.

When I start up the demo, there's just the gray screen with some huge red pixelated lettering that says "out of range". Any idea what's up?

nah i don't want to pay, i have other monthly bills that need paying before i start paying for subscriptions to download free files... the fileshack link is finally working and i dont mind waiting a bit for my download to start... they say that im limited to 100k/sec but that doesnt bother me since my dsl line only does 70

Nighthawk...no one cares about that. I've downloaded the demo from Gamer's Hell at 500k/sec at least one hour before it appeared on fileplanet, and i haven't paid anything for that. Go elsewhere if you wanna advertise fileplanet...

PS: 3DGamers doesn't seem to have the demo and the one on ubi soft ftp is indeed password protected, so u'd better get it from Gamer's Hell for now (haven't checked the others).

I got to the point where I escape from the first aid center at the very beginning, and then the game crashed on me. Hooray. I'll try it again later, but if crashes on me again, it's gone.

On a good note though, I do like the graphics quite a bit. It also runs very well on my not-so-great computer.
