They already got their money outta me. 50 bucks for the game and an extra paying month past the free month. It's an OK game until you realise that it's a complete waste of time since you can't keep anything overnight.

I had plenty of lag when there were more than 20 people in a fighting area. It seems to differ from system to system, completely regardless of your specs (mine are well above the min/req).

PlanetSide has a lot of good features, but quality coding and customer service isn't one. My crash errors only worsened after the last patch to the point where I couldn't stay on for more then a 20 minutes, crashed if I tried to get into battle, etc.

Worse is SOE's excuse for customer service. Posting to their Tech Support forum is an exercise in frustration. If you don't post in the right "format" (which requires hunting down various huge log files which occasionally PlanetSide "forgets" to log anyway) ... they ignore you. Even if they don't ignore you, they usually just add you to your "list" of information.

Complaining too loudly about this will get you banned from the game. Yup, I was banned from PlanetSide not for cheating, or being a TKer, or abusing other players, but for complaining about SOE. It was pretty moot since I was abandoning the game anyway, but I found it to be the pinnacle of lousy tech support that the one and only response I ever got from Sony was that I was being "inappropriate" - this while player-player flaming is a secondly occurance on their forums without a blink.

Instead of new features they should be discussing patches which fix things, not break them. And they should be honest that this is still an open beta with the added "feature" of paying for it.

I know some people who enjoy PS for it's social graces, it's massive battles and squad based tactics - all things which (when the game runs) are extremely fun and very addictive. For me, the frustration wasn't worth the price tag.

Alright can someone show me where the lag in PS is? I have been playing since early June and with the exception of one evening I have not experienced any lag.

As soon as HL2, Soldner, Stalker, Doom3 is out Planetside will loose most of its subscribers.

And when Flashpoint 2 is released, there wont be anyone playing PS.

Its an expensive level-grinding laggfiest, and there is more fun in any other game. After you have played for a month you will have seen it all, done it all, and realized that PS is just flashy graphics with no 'content' behind it.

To me, something feels missing.. maybe it's the fact that you need to pay for this, monthly. And add to the fact that after that month, you have NOTHING to show for it.

Listening to the testers is definitely something they didn't do.. and adding insult to injury, they upped the difficulty of getting to higher battle ranks, a completely pointless move imho. (It felt just right at the time.)

Don't get me wrong.. with a nice squad going, it CAN be fun, but it's more trouble than it's worth. (Going through three or four straight squads that are absolute assholes and know nothing of organization can really ruin your day.) I got more satisfaction from Tribes. (Not T2, Tribes, but that's just me.)

I'll just sit in my HL2 fanboi corner and wait for this gem to be released.

it was fun for 2 maybe 3 weeks.. then got boring. real boring. same rinse and repeat capture, no true winners, lots of useless vehicles/weapons.
horrible terrain (ugly, bland)
lag galore-even on high end systems and broadband.
bugs that got overlooked and not fixed for ages (doors anyone?)
"real quick, add some new vehicle.. no one will remember theres show stopping bugs in the game"

this game doesnt have lasting appeal.. no reason to play past a certain level.. everyone knows the 3-4 weaps that are useful, and the 2-3 vehicles that are as well.

server population went downhill fast.. old school FPS'ers like me didnt like the game.. it wasnt all we wanted it to be.. and like so many people have said.. "they didnt listen to the gamers"

My thoughts are on Dave G. as a designer. It has nothing at all to do with any of the bugs that were in T2 at or after launch. He's not a programmer. He didn't put the bugs in T2, the programmers did. However, he guided the team with a series of design decisions that I disagreed with. He oversaw changes to the game post-release that I disagreed with. I do not think he is a good designer based on what I saw in Tribes 2.

And yes, I happen to think T2 is a good game. I spent many hours playing it. Doesn't change my mind about the design, though.

I've been playing PS for months and I absolutely love it. It's definitely the most interesting and fun MMOG that I've ever played... which to some of you is not saying much, I'm sure. But truthfully, if you get in a good outfit with lots of players, creating a squad and stomping through continents can be quite amazing. Using TeamSpeak and hanging out with people online is what this genre (fps) really needed. They update the game all the time and it's only getting better, IMO. There's definitely a lot of whiny babies that compain about it... but I've come to conclude that those guys just suck at playing it. Seriously. It's not a "run in and start spraying bullets" type game. You definitely have to think if you want to stay alive. Obviously, some people just don't want to do any thinking. ;-)

Lay off Dave Georgeson guys, Tribes 2 had it's issues but it still is a damn fine game. Battlefield 1942 has had precisely the same teething issues as T2 and is, after months of patching & an expansion pack, missing a working tournament mode and has network code that is extremely quirky. I don't see you ragging at Dice with the same vehemence.

Planetside seems to be a continuation of the squad warfare Tribes 2 promoted to more massed combat actions. It is again a very ambitious design and people do seem to be having fun and enjoying it. So how about cutting the guy some slack, eh?

I upgraded from 512 to 1 gig of RAM I've had no lag
whatsoever. I have DSL so dunno what its like on dialup
but then dialup is crap anyways.

Needless to say, so far I am NOT impressed.

I bought PS, signed up for ONE MONTH in addition to my one month that came with the client software that you HAVE to buy. See, you do get a free month when you buy the game, this is true, but you have to still buy at least a month just to sign up, so at a minimum you have your free month and your 1 month minimum just to sign up.

So I played for 2 weeks and uninstalled that garbage.

Weird thing is the bastards at SOE kept billing me...so much for my signing up for one month.

I will NEVER EVER give another dime to SOE. This is classless swindling...if your product is worth a crap you dont have to cheat people out of their money.

I've not seen any sales numbers for PS, but in those NPD top ten lists, it debuted at #5 and dropped from the top ten after three weeks.

Creole Ned & Horribilus - You guys are right on the money about DG! Anytime I hear that name, I always think of T2 and how I still feel cheated out of my $50!!!

They need to stop listening to the damn customer whine-fests. If they need to be notified of major balance problems by a bunch of whiny teenagers then there are more problems that meet the eye. This stuff should be handled by staff, not children. Squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess eh?
