Consolidation

Football season hits gaming consoles discusses the possibility that paying to play online is part of the future of the very popular world of console football games. "The online connected console is a brand new concept," noted EA president John Riccitiello in a conference call Wednesday. "We do not want to set a long term precedent that it's a free benefit, but we don't think we can get paid for the simple act of matching two consumers to play against one another. So what we've been doing is looking at alternatives." Also, HomeLAN Fed's Masters Of The Universe Q&A talks about the upcoming cartoon-inspired console game.

EA already charges to play online on PC. its called EASO costs 5 bucks/month. but it works for all EA Sports games. Shame I only wanted to play golf online with my dad but it's not worth 5 bucks a month. You have to buy all the EA sports titles to get your money's worth.

What's next, people have to pay to be able to actually put the CD in their console?

that is *exactly* what certain people have in mind: the phantom.

Well, the EA games can only be played online on PS2 - so people won't have to pay the XBL fee on top of whatever they charge. Note that I'm NOT defending their actions, just clarifying.

that you have to pay for Xbox Live.

So you have to pay for the game, 50-60 bucks. Then you have to pay for your broadband internet access. I'll be generous and say 35 bucks a month, which is what Cox charges me, and they are Live compatible. Then you have to pay for Xbox Live, which is an unknown amount, since I don't really know or care.
And THEN EA wants you to pay to be able to fucking PLAY their game against somebody else?

Note to everybody who will wind up paying EA for this "privilege".
I have an excellent deal on some prime real estate land for you in Florida. Please email me.

I can understand where MS has to charge for Xbox Live! as theres a huge infrastructure that goes along with it but EA are just greedy bastards...always have been. Matter of fact, this was the sticking point between the recent MS/EA fallout. Its only a matter of time before any potential goodwill is lost when EA continues fisting its customers without the Crisco...(or something like that)

BTW, release MPBT:3025 to a group who actually cares about that particular IP you evil bastards!!

Earth to EA Moron : People have to PAY to buy your fucking game, and they have to PAY to get online in the first place.
What's next, people have to pay to be able to actually put the CD in their console?

Damn, but the world would be a much brighter place without EA in it.

I think just about anything pay to play on a console would be a failure.
