Out of the Blue

Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day (thanks iXbit)!

Con Edison (local gas and electric) sent along a couple of electricians yesterday to install an upgrade to our power meter. The thing is wireless now, and they will apparently scan the meter from the truck as they drive by, rather than have to enter the basement and read it. I haven't tried my wireless networking here since then, but I am assuming (eeek!) that it will still work. As such technology proliferates it will be interesting to see if they turn out hackable, and what sort of interesting things people will manage to come up with to play with the system... ah, who am I kidding, I'm guessing people have already worked some shenanigans out for these things.
