Freed from the tyranny of insider-only status, the
Call of Duty
preview on PC.IGN.Com (thanks
Frans) offers their first-hand impressions of
the upcoming World War II shooter being created by the 2015 alumni at Infinity
Ward. They offer some detailed impressions about the goings-on, focusing a bit
on the capabilities of the modified Wolfenstein engine (itself a tweaked version
of the Quake III engine), and offering an account of some impressive warfare:
At one point in time there were literally some 300 Russian soldiers on
the beach, all running in different paths, some dying, some hurdling through the
air from explosions, some cowering, others bravely and futilely returning
fire... It was insanity! And, it was just the way it's supposed to be. Really,
above any other wartime first-person shooter yet seen, Call of Duty seems
to be very accurately and very deliberately attempting to recreate the intense
and chaotic feel of combat by throwing delivering the sheer scope and horror of
it all (sans gore).
