I think Graphics Card Companies are just milking us. They charge $700+ (CDN) for a Top of the Line Graphics card. We take it home, plug it in a get these great incredable graphics. We go over to a buddies house and he's running an old GF3 or some such. Old by computing standards, but he's cranking out the same graphics with a little reduced performance and he paid like $150 (CDN). GFX Companies know we'll pay that much if they add in something like DX 9.0 support or Pixel Shader 2.0. Hell most engines dont even use Pixel Shader 1.0 and are just beginning to support DX 9.0. But hey, throw on an extra 1.0, crank up the price $550 and people will buy it. I got suckered in. You shouldn't have to. Wait till the game comes out before you upgrade, you'll save a bundle. Or dump the excess cash into things like RAM. You got enough RAM and any GFX Card can be a 9800 PRO.
