I didn't say graphics don't matter. The point I was making was that you don't have to have DOOM3 graphics to have a game look fantastic (as HL2 clearly does), and from my experience gaming online, graphics are no where near as important as performance.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am one of those people who loves eye candy. I pay for the best hardware so I can play these games in all their glory. However, saying that HL2 graphics suck just cause they don't measure up to DOOM 3, seems ludicrous in my opinion. Especially considering the insane physics and interactivity of HL2.
I know as much about DOOM3 as anyone here, and I haven't seen any evidence that DOOM3's world will be as interactive as HL2's. I will also state, for the record, that I prefer the road Valve has taken. They are making the world FEEL more real as well as look more real. Id's approach seems to be making things look more realistic than anyone else's game, but not react/feel real.
We have a little while before we see what DOOM 3 can do, but I still doubt they will touch the HL2 Source engine in mod-friendliness or interactivity....only time will tell.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.
