Out of the Blue

I'm off during the day today to pay a long overdue visit to Grandma Blue. Mondays can often be quiet for game news, so I have reason to hope that I won't have too much catching up to do upon my return, but it was so uneventful this weekend I feel like the other shoe is about to drop. It's quiet... too quiet...

You tell that to the MS sufferers who smoke weed because it does far less damage than aspirine, paracetemol and codeine

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Both drugs *and* alcohol are bad. Both have detrimental effects on health.

Alcohol is arguably good in moderation, but when you think of what proportion of drinkers actually drink in moderation, that's a negligible benefit.

Drugs of any kind are a crutch.

I'm off for a coffee

I think that the band Minor Threat held that viewpoint and subsequently wrote that song in the early 80's because they watched alot of their friends and other talented musicians (the singer H.R. from Bad Brains) waste themselves on drugs. I can understand there total repulsion for substance abuse. I think they helped alot of people by creating another music 'scene' that did not have to associate rock n roll with sex and drugs. That is more punk rock than spikey hair.

Hang out with the living dead
Snort white shit up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I'VE GOT STRAIGHT EDGE

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I'VE GOT STRAIGHT EDGE

ok. alcohol is worse because of its legality and ubiquity. people believe that other drugs are 'bad' because they are illegal?thanks alot NIXON for 'drug scheduling' to bust rebel hippies.

Between drugs versus alcohol as a menace to society, alcohol wins that battle hands down.

as far as recordable incidents of death and injury - yeah, that's true. but here are two things to consider:

1) a lot of death or injury that occurs due to drugs goes unnoticed because people tend to hide their drug use. if i'm on (acid or pot or X or whatnot) and driving and i zone out and kill someone in a car accident, it's likely i can pull it together enough when the law arrives so that no one knows i'm wasted. they run a breathalizer, see that i'm not drunk and that's where it ends.

2) i'd like to see the figures showing how much our society is hurt by drug addicts who never contribute to it's prosperity but instead live small, uncreative, confused, lives - leeching off those who do prosper. they're probably similar to the numbers of people who do it with booze. i know a girl addicted to drugs who is 33 years old, has 5 kids by 5 different guys, has been married twice (currently unmarried), has no job, lives with a guy she met two weeks ago, and frequently calls me because she's all depressed and wants someone to talk to who isn't "all messed up". the real bummer is that she is a brilliant, funny, happy person when not losing herself in drugs. what a waste.

believe me halsy, i very well know and understand recreational drug users who get high or trip and never have a problem, hold a job, and lead normal, safe, intelligent lives. but there is also a whole host of people out there whose lives have been destroyed by drugs.

Trying to scare kids with an ad like that would be laughable at best. Think *reefer madness*.

oh, i agree: "this is your brain. this is your brain on drugs. this is your brain with a side of bacon and fried penis." yeah, that'd work!

speaking of "reefer madness", ever see "the trip"... that's a classic ignorant portrayal of LSD use.

B. Apples and Oranges.
To compare what is worse, alcohol or drugs, is trivial.

That's patently false. Alcohol is so much worse on so many levels it's far from trivial. Thus the War on Drugs going on all the while ignoring alcohol is just ludicrous. Then they wonder why peopl don't take this wateful "war" seriously.

1. Alcohol is a drug.

B. Apples and Oranges.
To compare what is worse, alcohol or drugs, is trivial.

3. Caution should be used with any substance. Laws are irrelevant. People will do drugs/drink if they want.

5. Vehicular death sucks. I blame the VEHICLES. Many people die needlessly in auto accidents, killed by unskilled, sober drivers. Give them ANY substance and its all over. Vehicles are a bad idea. Public transport is better, but it seems that many humans like to own things so they feel powerful. On with the body count.

VII. Let me tell you, Psychosis sucks. It is very scary. Brief moments of joy/mania (I know THE secret of life, god, etc.) wrapped in never ending time loop of HORROR. I believe that story is true.

12e. Marijuana is ok.
12f. Unless it gives you flashbacks and you go into a psychotic time-spiral. Then it is not ok.
