PC EV Nova

The Ambrosia Software Website now offers downloads of the PC version of EV Nova, a port of the third installment in the popular Escape Velocity series for the Macintosh. The game "thrusts you into a sprawling universe dominated by a myriad of warring factions, each sharing a common bond, but so philosophically different as to make conflict inevitable." Licensing the full version costs US$30.

This is one of the best games in concept ive ever played in my life, starting with EV:Classic. Maybe someday Ambrosia will make the same leap that Rockstar did in take a beautiful 2d-game and bring it to full 3d, doing it well, and doing the series justice for it all. How baddass would it be to play this game from the first person.

Good news for everyone who registered the Mac version of EVN - your serial number will work with the PC version as well.

I registered this game when it first came out or Mac, but my Mac is an old beige dinosaur so I've been eagerly awaiting the PC version. Runs like a dream, and still manages to hook me in. A lovely example of beauty in simplicity.

I've been looking on their development log every other day for about half a year now. Suffice to say, this game nearly made me regret switching from Mac to PC 7 or 8 years ago. It's really, really good.

It does have something of a steep learning curve, but EV:N really is the pinnacle of everything that shareware can, and ought to be. Get it *now* and take it for a spin.

This series really is the pantheon of shareware gaming. Despite a few kinks in the PC port, this one game is really like bringing 3 classic Mac games to the PC; you can download plugins that give the game a Total Conversion to EV:Classic or EV:OverRide. And it's all $30. The open endedness of this game is really how I felt Privateer should have been handled.

I always liked part one and two. Then I never tried the third one since I went pc, now that it's available, I might give it a try.

I wonder what kind of mods there are for it?

This is just a combination of two of my favorite games ever, Frontier Elite 2 and Solar Winds...both old school. However, this does not do them justice. The gameplay in this version is not all that great, as well as the controls and "education" / tutorial about the gameplay. That is my biggest problem, if they just did A real "tutorial, this is what does what, and how" as their are a LOT of things to do in this game, it would be alot better!

I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally.
