BREED Delayed

The BREED Website (thanks Frans) has word that the sci-fi shooter, like the demo that has preceded it, has suffered a delay. Here's the word:
The release of the new tactical 3D action-shooter BREED will be postponed and put off until September. Many fans from the BREED community and the entire action-shooter scene had made worthwhile suggestions. The British BREED developer, Brat Designs, took these suggestions to heart and even further increased the game’s complexity.

Since the puplication [sic] of the beta demo at the beginning of June, the 3D actionshooter has undergone a lot of fine tuning. The full support of DirectX9 and Nvidia’s enhanced rendering technology have turned BREED into a visual masterpiece! As of today, brand-new screenshots can be found on the official homepage, which show off the stunning new effects.

I wasn't especially impressed with the demo they released. It had a weird feel to it, walking on sloped terrain was messed up or something. The graphics were good, but not pants-wettingly good. Multiplayer might be fun, but we shall see.

Hmm... yeah.. it sounds to me like "Breed has suffered a delay because, like the demo that preceded it, the game sucked." So basically they are hoping they can patch it up good enough in the next couple months to make it not suck as bad. Good luck to them. That's not something that has been pulled off very often in the past.

I'll be the one that actually liked the demo despite its problems. If they are truly addressing complaints about the demo, this could turn out to be a very good game. I thought it had tons of potential. No doubt they've made goofs out of themselves by verbally postponing this so many times, though.

The coding in the Breed "Beta Demo" seemed more "Alpha" than "Beta", IMO.

That left me thinking: if Brat thinks Alpha code is Beta code... then that probably means their version of Gold code is actually Beta code!!

I mean, if Breed were a MMORPG, that would make sense... : )

When I played Unreal II I thought that it's not possible to screw up such a potential hit any worse, that is untill I played Breed *beta demo*(I know)... wtf were they thinking?

I wasnt bothered by the movement probs, but rather by awfull simplicy of gameplay mechanics, you run from point B to point A while shooting some retarded transformer-like ''aliens'' and that is it! AI path finding was awfull, the damn soldiers would go on and jump offa cliff or stand in your line of fire.
Enemy AI owuld spot you dead on from miles and miles.

Probably the best thing about it was the landing ship moment, it felt really done really good.

Did ya get a chance to play the demo with any of the scripting mods folks whipped up within hours of the demo's release? The demo is *so* much better with the new scripts.

That, plus this latest "community inspired" delay, makes me think the game will suck out of the box because the devs are in way over their heads... but, after the hard-core Breed fans get their hands on the code, it might make for an interesting game.

In other words: I have little faith that Brat and CDV will deliver anything other than a mess... but after ten patches and about a zillion mods (look at the Breed board -- it's crawling with mods for the demo!) it could be an interesting game (to the 150 people who are still playing by then).

I'm always surprised when folks see delaying a release as a bad thing. Even in this case, having played the fairly lack-luster demo, I'm inclined to wait for a "final" (er, released) product before giving devs a hard time. In fact, in my mind, devs delaying release of a game almost always seems a good thing, not only becuase so many games are rushed and released gawd-awful early, but because I hope this just might not be the case. : )

With the (shoddy at best) beta demo and countless delays, I've no ambition to get this game. The art was nice and the atmosphere burn was a nice 'feature', but that doesn't make a game. The mission was boring, the story was tired, the AI was very poor, bugs galore (but this one I can understand as being 'beta'), odd hit detection, etc etc. I hope developers don't start throwing a 'Beta' tag on everything as a bandaid for it just plain sucking. Playing with purdy models in a purdy world ... I'd rather have the gameplay.

I'm always suprised when folks see delaying a release date as a bad thing.

I would agree if we're talking about one or, at the most, two delays, but when a game (*cough* Daikatana *cough*)is delayed again and again and again...

As an example: what would happen if Half-Life 2, after all the recent fireworks, misses it's September date? Not much. Folks would say, "Cool. Don't rush it!"

But let's say it slips to Q1 of 2004... then Q3... then mid 2005, then... know what I'm saying? I don't think even HL2 could survive the *justified* poking and prodding and chuckles the name would evoke.

(Edit) Forgot: Team Fortress 2, anyone? ; )

don't let the fact that you're comparing a finished game to an alpha code demo keep you from making rash generalizations, it would make too much sense.

People bitched and whined when the demo was delayed several times so Brat finally caved in under pressure and released a very rough demo that they weren't exactly proud of. people bitched and whined about the demo being crappy. Brat delays the game and people bitch and whine. They take suggestions from the community and of course thats reason to crucify as well. I'm so proud to be a gamer

The game was scheduled to ship a few days before HL2 ships, also, Brat consists of a handful of young guys taking a stab at making a major game. Cut them some slack. They haven't ripped anyone off.

I undirstand that Hump, but I think the core gameplay is there, I had really big expectations for this one, probably to big, I thought it could improve upon Halo, but it's just same shit plus alot worse art work and design(look at the damn aliens pfff).
