BREED Delayed

The BREED Website (thanks Frans) has word that the sci-fi shooter, like the demo that has preceded it, has suffered a delay. Here's the word:
The release of the new tactical 3D action-shooter BREED will be postponed and put off until September. Many fans from the BREED community and the entire action-shooter scene had made worthwhile suggestions. The British BREED developer, Brat Designs, took these suggestions to heart and even further increased the game’s complexity.

Since the puplication [sic] of the beta demo at the beginning of June, the 3D actionshooter has undergone a lot of fine tuning. The full support of DirectX9 and Nvidia’s enhanced rendering technology have turned BREED into a visual masterpiece! As of today, brand-new screenshots can be found on the official homepage, which show off the stunning new effects.

See, im thinking if Brat designs had a whole freaking extra year, and could only release an alpha demo that sucked hard, mabey CDV is getting screwed here. Most of CDV's games are pretty good, and most of there developers are probalbly happy with the way things are. But these guys seem to just be sucking up all the funds eating pizza everyday and then when CDV wants results they quickly scramble up some code.

The game was origionally slated for a summer release.

The game was originally due in mid 2002... Here we are in mid 2003.

Im Still Trying to Figure out how some people Actually think that the Breed Demo was an *Alpha* release. I swear people pull stuff like this out of their ass way to much.

The game was origionally slated for a summer release. HTF do you think that its *Summer* released DEMO is supposedly Alpha code???

Do people even know WTF ALPHA code is??? I seriously doubt it.

I would like to say it comes down to hoping for the best in a developer when delays come along. Yet, in taking from these two very examples, perhaps releasing info too early may be the real problem?

I am *so* with you on this.

It's not the developer, it's the publisher who is to blame -- when we gamers get overly excited, then overly disappointed, about a game that is supposed to be "The next Halo/Half-Life/Doom/System Shock/Starcraft/Warcraft/Blah/Blah..."

... and then it's crap.

I'm guessing (*big shock* -- well, not really) it has to do with money.

I didn't care much for the demo, but I'll give them a chance to make it better. It looks like they're listening to the fans and trying to fix the problems at least. The delays don't bother me since Brat is working to improve the game.

Are these the guys that made Powerslide? The name sounds familiar..

This is a good point. There are certainly limits to which delays seem reasonable and indicative of taking time to do it right, rather than fixing a hopelessly broken concept.

I wonder where this would put Duke Nukem (takes) Forever?

On the other hand, perhaps we should consider the development history of Half-Life… weren't they almost done with the game when they decided "it just wasn't right" and basically started over?

I would like to say it comes down to hoping for the best in a developer when delays come along. Yet, in taking from these two very examples, perhaps releasing info too early may be the real problem?

I, for one, am far more happy to hear little to nothing, even about a game such as HL2 – which any gamer knows is certainly being developed -- until it’s just about time for release.

After the demo I totally gave up on this game ever being good and now it seems like all they are trying to do is hide a shitty game behind pretty graphics. :/ Also, I can’t stand that guy in the demo that kept saying Hood instead of HUD.

I undirstand that Hump, but I think the core gameplay is there, I had really big expectations for this one, probably to big, I thought it could improve upon Halo, but it's just same shit plus alot worse art work and design(look at the damn aliens pfff).

When I played Unreal II I thought that it's not possible to screw up such a potential hit any worse, that is untill I played Breed *beta demo*(I know)... wtf were they thinking?

don't let the fact that you're comparing a finished game to an alpha code demo keep you from making rash generalizations, it would make too much sense.

People bitched and whined when the demo was delayed several times so Brat finally caved in under pressure and released a very rough demo that they weren't exactly proud of. people bitched and whined about the demo being crappy. Brat delays the game and people bitch and whine. They take suggestions from the community and of course thats reason to crucify as well. I'm so proud to be a gamer

The game was scheduled to ship a few days before HL2 ships, also, Brat consists of a handful of young guys taking a stab at making a major game. Cut them some slack. They haven't ripped anyone off.

I'm always suprised when folks see delaying a release date as a bad thing.

I would agree if we're talking about one or, at the most, two delays, but when a game (*cough* Daikatana *cough*)is delayed again and again and again...

As an example: what would happen if Half-Life 2, after all the recent fireworks, misses it's September date? Not much. Folks would say, "Cool. Don't rush it!"

But let's say it slips to Q1 of 2004... then Q3... then mid 2005, then... know what I'm saying? I don't think even HL2 could survive the *justified* poking and prodding and chuckles the name would evoke.

(Edit) Forgot: Team Fortress 2, anyone? ; )

With the (shoddy at best) beta demo and countless delays, I've no ambition to get this game. The art was nice and the atmosphere burn was a nice 'feature', but that doesn't make a game. The mission was boring, the story was tired, the AI was very poor, bugs galore (but this one I can understand as being 'beta'), odd hit detection, etc etc. I hope developers don't start throwing a 'Beta' tag on everything as a bandaid for it just plain sucking. Playing with purdy models in a purdy world ... I'd rather have the gameplay.
