Out of the Blue [Jul 02, 2003, 11:10 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Sigh. I went against the old adage about not fixing something that was not
broken yesterday, and tried to uninstall one of the multiple versions of Java
installed on my computer and, naturally enough, broke something really badly.
Now the odd behavior I am not able to shake is a memory leak with FrontPage
(which I have used for years as an easy HTML editor). It's a little spooky...
even saving a blank page immediately triggers the leak, which continues straight
on until the system crashes. Sorry about the late update and over-aged news.
This has been a real nightmare, I've transferred everything to a different
machine now, and I'm really beginning to suspect my aging hardware may just need
to be put out to pasture at this point (hey, this may be turn into a sponsorship
opportunity for some hardware type!).

I've experienced the same memory leak/hard crash problems with FrontPage in the past. Several times in fact, although I honestly can't quite put my finger on the problem. However, I seem to have found some work-around fixes. As you might have learned, uninstalling/reinstalling FrontPage won't really solve the problem. FrontPage typically assigns itself to certain folders on your hard drive - ones you specify, of course, but these relationships need to be changed. Unfortunately, the only way I've managed to fix them is by renaming the folder name (thus removing the FP association) and THEN reinstalling FrontPage itself.
Your mileage may vary, however.

I thought even those exempted have to honour your request to be placed on a DNC list.
I was wondering about that too. Seems like everyone and their dog is exempt from the list. If you can't get yourself added, then this thing really is worthless
